North Koreas latest missile launch failed, but how the U.S. will handle address the threat from North Korea has been one of the big topics on the Sunday shows today. Senator John McCain said this may be the first test of the Trump presidency.
McCain spoke with Chuck Todd on Meet the Press this morning about how the U.S. and China should respond, saying that China can stop this if they want to.
He also said that Kim Jong Un is not rational (somewhat less harsh than his recent comment about the North Korean leader being a crazy fat kid).
McCain repeated his remark about this being President Trumps first real test and also expressed his confidence that the president will receive good advice from Defense Secretary James Mattis and National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster.

(22,671 posts)I kinda of thought his first test was already a failure. Does he get to do the Yemen raid over again? Can we have our Navy Seal's life back, the 30 or so civilians killed on the ground and the $70 million V-22 Osprey?
Only in white privileged America under republican rule does a failed unpopular dictator get do-overs. I can hardly wait to see the outcome of his next First Test.

(3,498 posts)IMO North Korea is not going to be able to put up much of a fight. I think they are less stable than Iraq was. The possibility that this could go nuclear is about the scariest outcome.
That said, it's not the fight that will be the toughest it will be the aftermath. Does China sit by and let a US-friendly Korea get established? It doesn't seem that we've learned anything from our experiences in Afghanistan, Iraq or Vietnam. Winning a battle/war can be relatively straight forward, winning the peace is the part no one seems to understand how to accomplish or appreciate the difficulty.
