China mocks Trump missile strike after Xi leaves US: ‘A weakened politician who needed to flex his muscles’

China’s state-run news agency waited for President Xi Jinping to leave the U.S. before unleashing criticism on President Donald Trump’s Syrian missile strike.

Although President Xi was visiting Mar-a-Lago when Trump ordered the strike on a Syrian air base, Xinhua waited until China’s president was safely out of the country before mocking the military action.

“Xinhua, the state news agency, on Saturday called the strike the act of a weakened politician who needed to flex his muscles,” The New York Times reported. “In an analysis, Xinhua also said Mr. Trump had ordered the strike to distance himself from Syria’s backers in Moscow, to overcome accusations that he was ‘pro-Russia.'”

Over the weekend, Trump declared that the two leaders “made tremendous progress. I just want to say that President Xi and all of his representatives have been really interesting to be with,” the U.S. president said following the meeting. “I believe lots of very potentially bad problems will be going away.”

I mean, hasn't Syria already surrendered and Assad turned himself in because of Trump's glorious victory

Chinese culture focuses strongly on harmony and politeness. Open criticism is frowned upon. For them to insult Trump with such open words... that means a lot coming from the Chinese.

They called him "insipid", and a weak president full of empty rhetoric. Then there was the deliberate snub with Air Force One's aircraft stairs and yelling at Obama's staff in Beijing.

The broken clock that is Chinese state run media might be right about our current president, but fuck 'em.... I won't forget how they treated our first black POTUS. It wasn't very polite or harmonious.

I am quite sure the Chinese were insulted by the chain of events. Their leader comes here and agrees to meet at tacky Mar-A-Lago (though not to sleep there). It was supposed to be the headline of the weekend and what does 45 do? He steps all over the importance of the meeting with a missile strike that could’ve been done 2 days later. And, to add insult to injury, he tells the Premier about the strike at dinner where the man is ‘held captive’ and can do nothing but sit there and smile.

all of the way here, and DT overshadows the meeting by something he knows is very controversial to them. There were such important things to discuss. Couldn't he wait a day or two?

I didn't know that they did not sleep at the Palace, Mar o Lago. So weird that he met with the Chinese there anyway, especially for the first important meeting. I suppose it was because he promised he would not give the Chinese a state dinner. The Chinese are formal though. This wasn't the Governor of Hawaii.

I still don't understand why he singled out Germany, Merkel, to publicly be rude to before the world. You would think he could mind his manners for a few minutes.

side by side. It was the same withdrawn stance he had w Merkel. Sitting, leaning straight forward, hands clasped, looking out towards nothing. Of course, protocal not to insult, like being a guest in someone's house. Though, judging by Trump's angry, distant posture, in one of the photos, maybe the Chinese did drop a hint of his inappropriate timing.
