Stockholm incident: Car rams people on pedestrian street

A lorry has driven into a store in central Stockholm, killing at least three people, Swedish media say.

Shots have also reportedly been fired.

Swedish police said a number of people were injured, and they are treating it as terrorism.

The incident occurred on Drottninggatan (Queen Street), one of the city's major pedestrian streets, just before 15:00 local time (13:00 GMT).

At least three people have been killed and eight injured after a truck drove into pedestrians in a busy shopping area of central Stockholm, according to police.

Officers said one person had been arrested and they were treating the incident as terror-related. The prime minister, Stefan Lofven, said everything indicated it was “a terror attack”.

8. UPDATE: Swedish radio reports five dead, two arrested

Towe Hägg, a spokesperson from the Stockholm police, says:
- At 14.53 we received a call about some people had injured other people at Drottninggatan, close to Klarabergsgatan.
The police are still working to prevent further attacks. One person has been arrested. Säpo, the Swedish secret service, says in a statement:
"Säpo got, at 14.55 on friday, an alarm about a truck that has run in to a group of people on Drottninggatan in Stockholm. A large group of people have been injured. Säpo are assisting the regular police in the ongoing investigation. At the same time an intense intelligence operation is being conducted to find the person or persons responsible for the attack."
Two persons have been arrested.

12. UPDATE: truck stolen from local brewery

A representative of the Spendrups brewery told Radio Sweden that the vehicle had been taken earlier in the day. A spokesman for the company told SVT, a national public broadcaster, that the truck had been stolen while the driver was loading it from the rear.

The brewery’s driver told the police that a masked man stole the vehicle, and that he was injured trying to stop him.
