Bachmann comments throw 'silent' Reince Priebus, GOP off message

Source: MinnPost

When Reince Priebus, the chairman of the National Republican Committee, spoke to the Elephant Club Monday at the Minneapolis Hilton, he had to sidestep the debris left by the 110-pound elephant in the room.

Congresswoman Michele Bachmann has pushed Minnesota Republicans and operatives like Priebus either off message or into a cone of silence after her remarks accusing Congressman Keith Ellison and a top State Department aide of ties to anti-American Muslim organizations.

¬snip¬

However, Priebus refused any media availability, despite the Minnesota GOP’s best efforts to offer him up to the press. And when one reporter — me — showed up at the Elephant Club, Priebus was hustled into a private dining room under what constituted heavy guard to protect him against a single member of the press corps. The reason, spoken only off the record, was to avoid comment on Bachmann.

Paulsen, however, couldn’t avoid comment.

Minnesota Rep. Erik Paulsen disputes Michele Bachmann's remarks

Republican Rep. Erik Paulsen says the comments made by fellow Minnesota GOP Rep. Michele Bachmann about Islamic fundamentalists infiltrating high levels of U.S. government are "not appropriate" and "not accurate."

Paulsen weighed in on the Bachmann flap on Monday, July 23, after an unrelated legislative hearing in St. Paul.

more Michele Bachmann. She's entertaining and a fool. As for a grifter, she and hubby Marcus have been scamming the people and the government for years. The fact that she wins elections speaks volumes about the state of education and mental health in Minnesota.

and if it weren't for Batshit Bachmann, would easily set the bar for conservative assholery in Minnesota.

But, if anything, the 6th surrounds the 3rd on the north and west sides. The 3rd is more densely populated, so is smaller in area than the 6th.

They redrew her district so her house is now in a Democrat's district.

She's had to move to run in 2012.

The Constitution merely requires that a Representative "inhabit" the state they represent, when elected. There is no requirement that they reside in the State, much less their district. Theoretically, one could spend just the amount of time from the election to when the results are certified in a state that you had never set foot in before and never go back and still satisfy the Constitution.

because it's hard to get people to think you represent them if you don't live there

BUT,

there is no legal requirement to do so. It's perfectly legal to be a carpeTbagger.

She does not have to move, but the 6th is heavy with tightassed conservatives. It's doubtful that they would wake up long hold that against her, look how many times they have voted for a complete moron.

and/or dual loyalty, since Ms Bachmann had a need for Swiss Citizenship and became embarrassed to pursue that for herself, but the rest of her family obtained that, I am sure that she is covered, if her party ruins the rest of the country and not just every institution that we trusted up until the year 2000. I believe this would be a good start, lets look at all the representatives, that share their loyalty with other countries, and hold dual citzenship.

and went up to the big GOP booth plastered with all the MN GOP candidates, and missing was anything to do with Bachmann, nothing, no signs, nothing with her name. No people were there except some volunteers eating pizza in the back. Since I am a snot, I wandered over and asked "Hey, why are there no Bachmann signs? Are you ashamed of her or something? Well, you should be!" The guy looked like he was gonna choke on his pizza, and I giggled all the way back to my granddaughters 4-H horse barn.
