Rogers Bill Would Tax Undocumenteds to Pay for Wall

Source: Rooll Call

Alabama Republican Rep. Mike Rogers introduced legislation that would make undocumented immigrants pay for a border wall between the U.S. and Mexico.

The bill introduced Tuesday would impose a 2 percent fee on all wire transfers to the home country of undocumented immigrants, AL.com reported.

“This bill is simple — anyone who sends their money to countries that benefit from our porous borders and illegal immigration should be responsible for providing some of the funds needed to complete the wall,” Rogers said in a statement.
“This bill keeps money in the American economy, and most importantly, it creates a funding stream to build the wall,” Rogers added.

Of course, it couldn't possibly be the case that US CITIZENS with relatives abroad would be sending money out.

all the undocumented immigrants so, if he fulfills his promise, there will be no one to send money to tax. This would also mean a person would have to provide proof of citizenship to transfer money to another country. That could be messy for greedy fat cats and their offshore accounts.

They watch the gringos build the wall in 115 degree temps. Then somehow during off times the wall is mysteriously taken down, and has to start over. My dream.

come up with. My friends in the South agree -- they have more than their share of people who always seem to be interested in women's bodies, quashing diversity at all levels, and boxing in freedom. All the while claiming to keep government out of our lives.

A sympathetic hello to DU'ers from the South.

I mean, isn't the purpose of the ill-conceived wall to protect American workers' jobs after all? American companies surely would want to protect their America labor force, right? 2% of their income is a small price to pay for this "security", the same percentage that Trump wants NATO countries to pay for military security.

One doesn't have to be a citizen to have a bank account... but banks need some documentation. Some banks will take the Mexican CID card to open a basic account... big ones like Bank of America, Wells Fargo, US Bank and Capital One will open account with ITIN and consular ID and proof of address.

Doubt a tax bill like that will ever pass. IMO it's a creative way for banks to collect another fee for services like wire money.

Life in our society is much harder for undocumented persons these days than it was even 10/20 years ago. Mortgages, licenses, bank accounts, education, access is gone or limited. Legal friends and family help

No wires needed. 1 bank account, 1 ATM card. Mail card to recipient of funds, along with PIN. Money goes into bank. Cardholder uses ATM to get funds.

Cheaper than Western Union by far.

Legislation that targets this will hurt non citizens legally here in US needing to keep money safe within the US banking system. Also will hurt US citizens when traveling abroad, and turn banks into tax collectors - which they will object to.
