GOP scrambles to head off special election disaster
Source: Politico
Republicans are increasingly anxious that a splintered GOP field could lead to a Democratic upset victory in one of the first congressional elections of the Trump era.
Once an unthinkable prospect in the conservative suburban Atlanta seat left vacant by Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price, party officials now concede that Jon Ossoff, a 30-year-old Democrat, could steal a district thats been in GOP hands for decades.
Mounting worries have led the GOPs House campaign arm to set up its independent expenditure operation, part of a battle plan to get involved in short order, National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Steve Stivers of Ohio told POLITICO.
Special elections are special, and the Democrats and some independents are excited, so we need to make sure Republicans are just as excited about voting. I feel confident that well get there, Stivers said, noting that the partys involvement is designed to motivate turnout, not back one of the nearly dozen GOP candidates seeking the seat. But we know that Ossoff is real.

(6,916 posts)Get ready for massive ad blitzes.
Also watch out for that ad microtargeting that we heard about in today's Senate hearing.

(24,780 posts)They have to be a blue dog to get reelected because of the way those districts see gerrymandered.

(21,596 posts)That said, we Democrats need this seat desperately.
Recently, under cover of darkness and late at night, the state GA GOP re-gerrymandered several GOP suburban districts just outside Atlanta. The purpose was to strengthen the GOP majority.
The GA GOP is scared and desperate like a cornered animal.
A few days ago, I saw an Ossoff TV advertisement in my city in NE GA.

(6,916 posts)2018 is very likely going to be a wave election for the Dems in the House. Hold on until 2018 and then reverse-gerrymander. And back Kander and his mission to end voter suppression.

(28,798 posts)the way republicans steal elections. all he, and the democrats, have to do is get out the vote and educate the populace. then he will win. won't have to steal a thing. not like republicans.
