Trump travel ban could cost U.S. tourism $18B through 2018

Source: MSN/USA Today

President Trump's temporary travel ban and an inhospitable political climate could punch an $18 billion hole in U.S. tourism by international visitors over the next two years, travel analysts predict.

Foreign tourism is a $250 billion-a-year business in the United States, and Trump's original and revised executive orders temporarily banning travel from majority Muslim countries — put on hold by federal courts — have dampened interest worldwide in visiting a country viewed as less welcoming to overseas visitors, according to the travel analysts.

• In the week after the first travel ban, business travelers canceled $185 million in bookings because of uncertainty over traveler confidence, according to the Global Business Travel Association, which represents 7,000 travel managers. A survey found nearly half of European travel professionals and 31% of their U.S. counterparts expected their companies to reduce travel during the next three months, the group said.

• Marriott International suffered a 3% decline in international bookings to the U.S. in February, according to a March 21 earnings call. The drop included a 25% to 30% decline from the Middle East and a 10% decline from Mexico, Marriott CEO Arne Sorenson said. A handful of groups chose to hold meetings outside the U.S. because of concerns that attendees would face travel difficulties, he said.

we have flight benefits. I've been looking at flights to Europe and seeing lots of open seats. We just might do some traveling this year.

We didn't get first or business because of upgrades but did get a whole row in the Economy plus.

A lady I sat next to on a flight from Venice to Brussels told me that her family is concerned about Cheeto and cancelled their yearly trip to US until our Country returns to stability. She couldn't understand how we went from such an intelligent smart president to an idiot.

Definitely take advantage of European travel before Cheeto totally wrecks relations with the EU and other countries.

drives the economy in many places. Most states rely on revenue created by tourists who happily want to throw their money at various resorts and attractions.
