Big Ten adds more penalties to Penn State

Source: USA Today

The Big Ten Conference added more penalties to Penn State on Monday, increasing the monetary hit by $13 million and formally censuring the school.

The announced from the league's Council of Presidents and Chancellors (COPC) came a few hours after the NCAA handed Penn State an unprecedented $60 million fine, instituted a four-year bowl ban and cut scholarships for its conduct tied to the Jerry Sandusky sexual abuse scandal.

The additional money, termed a "fine" by the the league in a release, will come in the form of withholding payouts from the years when the Nittany Lions will not be eligible for bowl games.

The sanctions are effective immediately and include, according to a league release:

1. Censure: The accepted findings support the conclusion that our colleagues at Penn State, individuals that we have known and with whom we have worked for many years, have egregiously failed on many levels—morally, ethically and potentially criminally. They have failed their great university, their faculty and staff, their students and alumni, their community and state—and they have failed their fellow member institutions in the Big Ten Conference. For these failures, committed at the highest level of the institution, we hereby condemn this conduct and officially censure Penn State.

as weak as those "penalties" are. Men just don't stand-up for children.

Losing Penn State will drop the Big 10 to 11 teams and by NCAA rules they need 12 for a conference championship game.
