Ryan Backs Nunes as Intelligence Chairman Rebuffs Recusal Calls

Source: Bloomberg

House Speaker Paul Ryan backed the embattled chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, as Devin Nunes lashed back Tuesday at Democratic calls for him to recuse himself from his panel’s investigation of Russian meddling in the U.S. election.

“No,” Ryan said Tuesday when asked whether Nunes should step aside from the probe.

Nunes told reporters Tuesday he wouldn’t. "What’s the purpose?" the California Republican asked.

Congressional Democrats, including the panel’s top Democrat, Adam Schiff of California, and party leaders, said that Nunes should remove himself from the committee’s Russia probe after admitting Monday that he visited the White House grounds to meet with a source to view intelligence documents that he used to bolster President Donald Trump’s claims of surveillance by the previous administration.

After I read the 2nd report 2 days ago on twitter re: WH staff wiping their phones, I retweeted to DC police and FBI et. al. about a reported crime ongoing at the WH. I wonder if they went over.

15. LOL Lindsey Graham says Nunes running "INSPECTOR CLOUSEAU" investigation

snip: Senator Lindsey Graham took a different approach, openly mocking Nunes for running an “Inspector Clouseau” investigation – referencing the fictional bumbling detective made famous by Peter Sellers in the Pink Panther films.

“If he’s not willing to tell the Democrats and Republicans on the committee who he met with and what he was told, then I think he’s lost his ability to lead. My belief is the House is off track and probably can’t get back on track.”

The problem that he’s created is he’s gone off on a lark by himself, sort of an Inspector Clouseau investigation here. The only way this thing can be repaired is he tells his colleagues on the House intel committee who he met with and what he saw and let them look at the same information.”
Nunes, who is ostensibly supposed to be leading the investigation into the potentially treasonous collusion between Trump’s campaign team and agents of the Russian Federation, has done nothing but draw more attention to the issue with his constant missteps and utterly bizarre decisions.

holding back protects an ongoing investigation. Otherwise, Yates should use the media to inform the public.
