Magnitsky lawyer injured after 'falling' from building near Moscow
Source: BBC
A lawyer for the family of Sergei Magnitsky, the lawyer whose death in 2009 sparked a crisis between Russia and the West, has been badly injured.
Russian media say Nikolai Gorokhov fell from the fourth floor when a rope snapped as he and others tried to lift a bath into his house near Moscow.
He was flown to hospital by helicopter, a medical source was quoted as saying...
Life News, a Russian tabloid news site, published photos of a shattered bath lying on the ground by a block of flats.

(111,277 posts)When I worked in the VA, we'd get people as soon as they could breathe on their own, comatose with hoses and wires going all over the place. Gradually at first, they'd improve enough that after they pulled out a hose, we could leave it out and see how they did. Six months of intensive rehab later, a shocking number of them were walking, talking, and ready to leave the place under their own power.
Head injuries were fascinating to work with and the first thing I learned is that everybody is different. You'd see some guy who'd been scraped out of a sports car with a spatula make almost a full recovery, while another who'd been hit by a full speed hockey puck stay in a vegetative state.
There are just too many variables in "severe head trauma" to say anything about whether or not he'll recover.
Still, if you've got any choice in the matter, it's better to go out that window feet first, blow your knees out breaking your fall, and avoid the head injury.

(2,559 posts)It had him falling or being thrown from a 4th story window.
A subsequent BBC version had him falling because of a bungled attempt to hoist a bathtub into his home.
Probably it was one of those newfangled Jacuzzi equipped spas, which couldn't fit through the door.
But since I don't think everything out of Russia is necessarily a lie (unless Trump is re-tweeting it), it appears that this was an accidental death. Chalk it up to the perils of DIY home improvement with ropes and multiple floors.
Perhaps another version will emerge eventually. I don't know.

I once saved the life of a piano mover who leaned out too far to guide a piano on a crane in thru a window. Grabbed his (unattached safety belt and snatched him back inside.
OSHA guidelines are there for a reason.
