A slight majority of American voters believe that Attorney General Jeff Sessions lied under oath to the Senate Judiciary Committee during his confirmation hearings and that he should resign from his position, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday.
Fifty-two percent of voters, according to the poll, said that Sessions lied during his confirmation hearings, as opposed to 40 percent who do not and 8 percent who didnt know or didnt answer. Similarly, 51 percent think Sessions should resign, versus 42 percent who think he should keep his job and 7 percent who didnt know or didnt answer.
As you may know, during his Cabinet confirmation hearing, U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions stated that he did not have any communications with Russian officials while working with the Trump campaign, Quinnipiacs full question about Sessions testimony to the Judiciary Committee said. It has since been revealed that he did meet with the Russian ambassador when he was a Senator on the Armed Services Committee and a top advisor for the Trump campaign. Do you think he lied under oath about this issue, or do you think he made an unclear statement without lying?
Sessions has since recused himself from all matters relating to the Trump campaign. And he attempted to clarify his comments about contacts with Russia in a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee on Monday.

(30,613 posts)Really really clear, and it's embarrassing that so many in the media have been pretending it's not black and white. It's black and white: perjury.

(70,270 posts)..........Overall, Trumps approval rating among respondents climbed to 41 percent, three points higher than the 38 percent who said they approved of the presidents handling of his job in late February. Fifty-two percent said they disapproved of Trumps handling of the presidency, a three point dip from last months poll.

(783 posts)That goes to the 538 rating of polls.
Takes a few seconds to adjust your vision, but it should be obvious then, it should make sense.
538 is close to the gold standard on practical stats -- on this sort of thing -- They're real smart numbers guys.
For bias red/blue, see the far right column. (Other columns are about accuracy, methods, etc)
Compare for example to Gallup and LA Times.
Cheers. Hope that helps at all.
Short answer, bottom line:
Yeah, one of the better ones actually, but slightly Republican-biased.

(36,869 posts)After all, Trump started his presidency with a lie under oath.
Trump started his Presidency by lying before God with his hand on the Bible.
"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States."

(15,548 posts)and Sessions can get away with perjury. It's up to all of us to keep the pressure on this issue.
I'm contacting my two Senators today, but they're both Dems and I have gotten responses from one of them and she's doggedly pursuing all sorts of issues with this administration. So, kudos to her, but I'm still going to keep contacting both of them.
