Hospitals come out against GOP healthcare bill
Source: The Hill
The American Hospital Association announced Tuesday its opposition to the GOP's healthcare reform plan.
The hospital association is the first health industry group to expressly come out against the legislation, dubbed the American Health Care Act, which House GOP leadership unveiled on Monday.
We ask Congress to protect our patients, and find ways to maintain coverage for as many Americans as possible, Richard Pollack, the president and CEO of the American Hospital Association, wrote in a letter to House Republicans.
We look forward to continuing to work with the Congress and the Administration on (Affordable Care Act) ACA reform, but we cannot support The American Health Care Act in its current form, he said.

(36,747 posts)Many rural clinics will shut down. There will be areas where you have to drive 2-3 hours just to get care and will have to wait even longer when you get to it.

(15,289 posts)I had to call 911 after a parent fell again at home. An off duty VFD fireman heard the dispatch call for lift assistance and came to help. This wasn't the first call for help and after my parent was helped up and checked out, the fireman told me something to the effect of I should find a safe place for my parent (like a nursing home) because the VFD couldn't keep being bothered to come out despite it being the first time a VFD person had ever come. My parent heard that and had me write a donation check on the spot. Needless to say after my parent passed away not too long afterward, I've never given the local VFD a dime and never will.

(11,686 posts)down. Particularly ones in small towns. I live in a small town but there are many smaller ones around who depend on the hospital in my town. Some of those smaller towns are about 40 minutes away and the next closest hospital is 30 minutes away. There are no ambulance stations in these small towns so add 40 on the way there 40 back to our town then 30 to the cities hospital. A lot of people are going to be screwed big time. The people who can afford health care will be effected also because there is not going to be a special hospital for them. If they want to go to that hospital they can afford they are going to have to move. If hospital in the big city have to shut down some of those may be ones who have some of the latest technology may be the ones shutting down bringing us back a few years for up to date medical care.

(20,586 posts)said that uncompensated care has gone from 6% to 1% thanks to Obamacare (ACA). As we know that cost is paid for by people without insurance who are on the hook for cash. Our hospital is aggressive in recovering those costs - liquidation of assets to pay the bill.

(3,500 posts)That's probably the only line that will make some Rebups balk. Fewer insured people means less people requesting care which means layoffs in the health care field and supporting industries. Very simple.
