The Republican Partys new health care bill is getting panned from all sides, and President Donald Trump has already taken to Twitter to try to clean up the mess. The president began the day by expressing enthusiasm for our wonderful new health care bill, which he said was nonetheless open for review and negotiation.

However, the GOPs plan took heavy criticism on Fox & Friends on Tuesday morning from both Sen. Rand Paul (R-TN) and conservative talk radio host Laura Ingraham.
Paul slammed the plan as Obamacare lite and vowed to oppose it on the grounds that it created a new entitlement program. Ingraham, meanwhile, said that two of the biggest promises that Trump made during his presidential campaign to rein in the cost of prescription drugs and to let Americans buy insurance plans across state lines were nowhere to be found in the GOPs plan.
Trump tweeted out that hes still going to pursue the ideas that he campaigned on, but added that they would have to come in Phase 2 & 3 of repealing Obamacare.

Trump backs House healthcare plan, says open to negotiations

U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday backed a draft Republican proposal to dismantle Obamacare that was unveiled Monday, saying the proposed healthcare legislation was out for review and negotiation.
Trump, in a tweet on Tuesday morning, described the bill proposed by fellow Republicans in the House of Representatives as Our wonderful new healthcare bill.
The plan, released late on Monday, would undo Democratic President Barack Obamas 2010 healthcare law, removing the penalty paid by Americans without insurance coverage and rolling back extra healthcare funding for the poor.
The plan was swiftly criticized by Democrats.
Although Obamacare has long been a common target of Republicans, the proposal also met with skepticism from some in the party who are concerned about the replacement plans tax credits for buying health insurance and changes to coverage under Medicaid, the government health insurance program for the poor.

(2,062 posts)Really? dead on arrival? any indications that it is? filibuster in the senate? needing 60 votes, and some right wingers are not voting for it?.... it will be dead when it is dead, but don't say it until it happens...

(14,573 posts)part of why it so hard for them to get anything put together is that they know they won't get 60 votes in the senate, so the current bill is built around only those things they can get through on reconciliation (all somehow budgetary related), which does not need the 60 votes for a vote, they can just have a straight up and down vote.
NOW - it does seem as though there are going to be a couple R senators that won't sign on for whatever crazy ass reasons they have, so as long as team D finds the where with all to have everyone stand united, we might duck this.
But, it isn't as DOA by any means, kind of a long shot.
