North Korea fires multiple missiles into Sea of Japan

Source: The Guardian

North Korea has fired multiple missiles into the Sea of Japan, South Korea’s military has said.

The missiles were launched from the Tongchang-ri region, where a missile base is located, and flew about 1,000 km (620 miles).

It was not immediately clear what type of missile was fired or the exact number; Pyongyang has staged a series of missile test-launches of various ranges in recent months.

Earlier, the South’s Yonhap news agency cited an unnamed ministry official as saying one of the projectiles could be an intercontinental ballistic missile capable of reaching the US mainland.

Seoul and Washington launched annual joint military exercises last week that regularly infuriate Pyongyang, which condemns them as provocative rehearsals for invasion.

And why would NK fire a so-called intercontinental ballistic missile capable of reaching the USA, requiring a totally different kind of test, into the Sea of Japan just 640 miles away?

Just saying.

tried to make it sound like these sorts of tests wouldn't continue if he became president. That was during the campaign. Now he's in power and he's unable to do a damn thing about it.

So much bluster. So little consequence.

what would happen if Kim and court were removed overnight. Those poor minions have been fed BS for so long, could they ever aspire to something resembling normalcy?

and I participated in the old Team Spirit exercises in the late 80s. The whole peninsula was pretty tense leading up to and during the exercise.

had these joint naval exercises, but under the orange one this can only seem more provocational. I wonder if the exercises are on a permanent time schedule or have to be cleared each year. Or maybe they are cleared months in advance. My point is, I don't know if the orange one is even aware that we conduct these exercises, and this missile launch could send him over the top. God help us if Kim Jong Un follows Twitter.
