Claire McCaskill accused of lying in attack on Jeff Sessions
Source: USA TODAY
WASHINGTON Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., who fired off one of the harshest criticisms of Attorney General Jeff Sessions over his meetings with a Russian ambassador, faced blowback herself Thursday when the senator's own tweets contradicted her claim that she never had met the ambassador.
A good prosecutor would have known these facts were relevant to the questions asked, McCaskill said in a statement Thursday morning. "It's clear Attorney General Sessions misled the Senate the question is, why? Ive been on the Senate Armed Services Committee for 10 years, and in that time, have had no call from, or meeting with, the Russian ambassador. Ever."

(7,412 posts)Just bad optics, Sessions defenders will use it to invalidate demands that he resign.
And of course, we now have Joe Manchin-D publicly defending Sessions as well.

(62,531 posts)it will take many a repuke congress critter to get rid of the bums.
And that means they have to cross party lines and grow spines.
I seriously doubt that will happen.
they only way that does happen is if all the bullshit swirling around trump and his room full of dopes becomes personal liabilities to the various repuke congress critters.
then and only then, will things change.
until then, I'll believe it when I see it. and I'm not about to hold my breath.

Someone in the opposition sure was on top of this mistake she made. Plus, it was work connected, not related to her campaign.

(49,013 posts)People do forget occasionally, though forgetting meeting the Ambassador in your own office AND at the big event where your hero is nominated is impossible to believe. Just as hard to believe is that a careful lawyer like Sessions would not know that his clear unequivocal direct statement under oath without qualifying it is a lie. Trying to weasel out saying he was answering with his Senate Committee hat on directly contradicts that Sessions met the Russian Ambassador at the RNC Convention!

(25,865 posts)Twice at least. I mean, it's not like a meeting with the local girl scouts. It's an ambassador.
And don't tell me a Senator meets so many she just can't remember them all. Especially since this thing has been front and center for more than a day or two.

(25,865 posts)She said she never met with a Russian ambassador. If she met with a different one, she should have clarified it: I met with former Ambassador so and so, and we discussed girl scout cookie sales, or whatever they actually discussed. But simply saying she never met with one when she did, well when Republicans do that we call it lying.
Not that I am at all fond of McCaskill. I don't think she can really be trusted.
