School principal: Trump chants crossed line into hate speech

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — The principal of a suburban Connecticut high school says some of his students crossed the line into hate speech when they taunted basketball players from a predominantly black and Latino school with chants of "Trump, Trump, Trump!"

Officials say about seven or eight students from Canton High Schoolchanted the president's name as players from the Classical Magnet Schoolin Hartford were attempting foul shots during a Tuesday night conference playoff game.

In a letter to parents, Canton High School Principal Andrew DiPippo said the chanting went beyond free speech or political speech.

"While students' right to free speech and forming educated opinions about politics and current events is a cornerstone of our educational system, the exact point where political opinion converges with disrespect, discrimination or hate speech must be separated," he wrote. "We have a reputation as a welcoming community and these students crossed this line with their comments and have damaged our reputation. As principal, I am disheartened that our message of community has not resonated with all students."

Either you hate Trump or you hate the rest of the human race.

There's no third choice.

You wouldn't mean it that way, of course. And neither do many of them. Please...delve deeper into the motivations of your fellow citizens.

Supremely intolerant us-them attitudes will destroy us if they are not overweighed by thoughtful people. We must overcome.

He wrote an excellent response to the incident and most of the time, most of the public will get behind you on that.

8. I have never been more disappointed with the country than with Trump's election.

His supporters seemed not to care about any of his mountain of flaws. First of all, even if he were a nice guy, he knows nothing about policy or governing. It's ridiculous to think that someone with zero experience could handle an economy and country as large as ours. Second, how can any decent person vote for someone who started his campaign by calling a whole group of people killers and rapists? He then went on to disparage POWs, the disabled, women, AA, etc. The only voting block that he didn't offend were the white working class people that formed his base.

Trump's election has legitimized people's prejudices. They now think that it's OK to insult any group of people that is different from themselves. There have been attacks on Indians, Muslims, Hispanics, gays, etc.

Sickening..........

to "us" all non-brainwashed conservatives.

I mean this very seriously and literally.

There are people who genuinely voted for him for some other insane reason, but most Trump voters relish in the hatred of the evil liberal boogyman, and they really could care less how much damage is done.

It is all very mean spirited.
