Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) joined several other Democrats in calling for Attorney General Jeff Sessions' resignation Thursday, after the Washington Post reported that Sessions met twice with the Russian ambassador to the United States during the presidential campaign.
Sessions told the Senate Judiciary Committee during his confirmation process in January that he had not met with any Russian during the campaign, though his spokesperson told TPM Thursday that Sessions met with the ambassador in an official capacity as a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, which is entirely consistent with his testimony.
McCaskill called for Sessions to resign Thursday, saying in a statement published by NBC's Frank Thorp its clear Attorney General Sessions misled the Senatethe question is, why? Ive been on the Senate Armed Services Committee for 10 years, and in that time, have had no call from or meeting with, the Russian ambassador. Ever. Thats because ambassadors call members of the Foreign Relations Committee. Attorney General Sessions should resign.

(32,076 posts)Why are they not en masse having a press conference making this demand? Do they not communicate as a group ? Is there any planning or anything else even going on? I am unwilling at this point to give them the benefit of the doubt. All this dithering , which in my opinion has gone on for a few years now, is feeling looking and sounding like a bull shit theater.

(32,076 posts)We're I threatened, bribed, or otherwise compromised...would I take this up had I the power and position to break legal rules and broadcast the facts? Don't know. But is their not one old school member - of either party - who took their oath to the Constitution honestly?
I don't feel like our party is even telegraphing to us that they've got this.

Or rather, no legitimate business.

(19,962 posts)Ambassador, so clearly Sessions can't be sure what they know of his meetings with the Russian, and can't be sure that if they do have something, they won't leak it too. Hard to see where he goes from here, except the door. That explains his somewhat Jesuitical responses this morning....just giving what he hopes is enough, but only raises more questions.

(37,355 posts)If Sessions had not passed the hearing process he would still be Senator. Now, if he gets the chop, he'll be out on his ear. Of course he could run next time and get elected. After all, in a republican paradise aiding and abetting the enemy is hardly an offense.
