MUNCIE It was Democrat Night at the Delaware County Fair on Wednesday night, and as usual, two groups of Democratic candidates most backed by the partys central committee, a few of them members of the dissident Team Democrat organization greeted fairgoers.
But it was a disagreement among Republicans at their partys tent up the road that had some people talking.
The GOP tent featured an inflatable punching bag designed to look like President Obama.

(21,475 posts)any different than DUs old begathons with prominant Republicans as targets of the DU boxing gloves? I remember most quarterly money drives as having a big fist advancing across the bar clobbering many different Republicans as the cash poured in..I thought they were humorous just as I imagine Republicans thought the Obama punching bag was also. this is quite different than putting a face on a target which is fired upon by guns or something similar..

(3,811 posts)but the context of the times are very different. Civility and civil discourse made an abrupt step-change towards the gutter after Obama was elected in 2008 - driven by hard-right ideologues, right-wing demagogues, racists, anti-government conspiracists, 2nd amendment fanatics, Tea-Party leaders, and all the rest. What was once a stinging but good natured jibe is often now a very real invitation to violence.

(9,696 posts)Politicians don't endorse DU. Also, photographic images can not be actually punched. Imagine people lining up to punch an inflatable doll with their real fists. It's kinda weird and violent and leads to more violence.
So, I'd say false equivalency.
