Chaffetz probing national park's tweet welcoming new monument

House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) is investigating a months-old tweet from his state's Bryce Canyon National Park.

Chaffetz reportedly suspects that the tweet, which was posted in December the day after President Obama designated the more than 1.35-million-acre Bears Ears National Monument in southern Utah, may reveal that the park officials had advanced notice.

"Welcome to the family Bears Ears (& Gold Butte) NM! A hopeful slot in our front desk maps has long been held for you," the account tweeted. An attached picture with the tweet showed what appeared to be an empty map slot, labeled "Bears Ears." Chaffetz questioned the timing of the tweet, which mentions a slot that “long been held."

"The White House is telling the governor as well as the congressional offices that no decisions had been made — that it was still an open question — so how is it [Bryce Canyon National Park officials] were already ready to go with that information?" Chaffetz asked in a letter to Bryce Canyon's superintendent. "The timing is serious.”

Chaffetz beef is that the slot was there before the announcement. He thinks this means they had advance knowledge.

Reading the tweet, we see that the slot was there only because they were "hopeful".

Any area ready to be designated a national monument will have lots of studies on websites and available regarding it. Knowledgeable people (a category Chaffetz is ignorant of) can see this and make a good guess as to which ones are likely to succeed and they certainly know which ones they hope will succeed. Hence the slot was "long being held" open.

Since it was a long time, it was not advance knowledge.

That's all this is.

But Chaffetz is so eager to find a peccadillo on Obama that he is grasping at straws.

In the meantime, the uninvestigated elephant (literally, as in GOP) in the room is the compromised election of the Minority President by possibly treasonous actions on the part of Republicons and possibly invasive actions by a foreign power.

Did Chaffetz have advance knowledge of the Russian actions and the tRump campaign actions? Investigate Chaffetz.

many of the BLM's offices in Utah are staffed by volunteers. And knowing many of them,they are very dedicated to helping tourists and outdoors people who visit there local areas. Example,St George Ut. had 33 full time BLM employees in 2004. This is when the sale of Federal Land really started to gain legs and the Local City Real Estate Developers wanted the area known as the Desert Turtle Preserve as their new Development for million dollar and up homes and Red Rock Golf Course. Local folks who apposed this were able to stop any movement towards the BLM considering any type of land swap or sale. As a result,Bush/Cheney with the help of Hatch and Bob Bishop,cut the BLM employees to one and this gives you a little understanding as to what is really happening to the National Monument movement.

The person who Chaffetz is attacking is a unpaid Volunteer.
