McConnell Says Trump Should Stay on Message: 'What He's Saying Makes Everything Harder'

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell gave an interview to The Weekly Standard in which he offers some constructive criticism for President Trump.

While he’s encouraged by the president’s agenda, he believes “what he’s saying makes everything harder”:

His tweets and comments often make it “harder to achieve what you want to achieve.”

Trump also creates a “theater aspect” when he speaks out on personal and non-substantive matters, McConnell said. This produces distractions “on a daily basis.”


He told The Weekly Standard‘s Fred Barnes that Trump can tweet if he wants, but he shouldn’t be responding to every single bit of criticism that takes everyone off-course.

...constitution, lack patriotism of any kind, coddle openly traitorous officials, and are a complete fool who will be viewed by history in the goriest of terms, possibly displacing people like Joe McCarthy, John Calhoun and Jefferson Davis as candidates for "worst senator ever."
