Dems Question Whether Flynn Should Serve Amid New Reports On Russia Calls

Source: Talking Points Memo

By CAITLIN MACNEAL Published FEBRUARY 10, 2017, 11:45 AM EDT

Democrats in Congress questioned whether Michael Flynn should remain in his post as national security adviser following several reports that he talked about U.S. sanctions with the Russian ambassador before President Donald Trump took office, despite denying any discussion of the issue.

"If this new report is accurate, it raises grave questions about whether General Flynn was dishonest with the American people, whether he misled his own White House colleagues, or whether White House officials knew about his secret dealings with Russia and misled the public themselves," Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD), ranking member of the House Oversight Committee, said in a statement.

"Last week, we asked Chairman Chaffetz to obtain General Flynn's security clearance application and any updates, and now there is more urgency for the Oversight Committee to make this request," Cummings continued. "If this new report is true, we need to ask not only whether General Flynn should be leading our national security efforts, but whether he should even hold a security clearance."

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), the top Democrat on the House's intelligence panel, questioned whether Flynn should serve in the federal government if the reports are proven true.

1. "Question" is much too mild a word.

By this point, "demand" would be a more appropriate priority. Still, I'm very glad to see Cummings and Schiff raising the issues, and I fully realize that, without control of Congress, there are limits to what they can achieve on their own. Nevertheless, I would like to see congressional Democrats continue hammer hard on this issue, keep it in the news. It also should be an issue for 2018. Any Republican congressman who has supported Flynn (etc), or tried to squelch investigation of Flynn and Putin-Trump issues, should be held targeted for development of a STRONG Democratic rival in 2018.

2. He was hired specifically because he would lie and cover up to advance Russia's wishes.

Drumpf wouldn't have him in office unless he were a total traitor, same with Tillerson. His criteria seems to be Putin loving or total incompetence and antipathy to the department which they will lead. So far, the only success he's had is in placing these destroyers in his cabinet. Otherwise, he's a total failure and will take us down the path of destruction as fast as he, McTurtle and Eddie Munster as far as they can push us.

for extreme "vetting". After he "confesses", we can decide what to charge him with and give him a "trial".

Ballast. Wisdom. Copper bottoms. Call it what you will. These are grave
political questions, unlike "EMAIL! EMAIL! EMAIL! BENGHAZI! BENGHAZI!
BENGHAZI!" or even, if you remember the days, "WHITEWATER! WHITEWATER!
WHITEWATER!"

Republicans are constantly manufacturing crises to promote their agenda. But
they have no gravitas

They have slammed Democrats as being "socialists" or even "Marxist" yet have no problem with Putin or Russian interference. I think their problem is they hate/fear democracy.

... After joining the Navy Reserve, my assignment was to a unit which worked in and around the NSA in this iconic building. One of the missions which our organization was assigned to prosecute was Own Force Monitoring or OFM. If you have ever been on a military base, you certainly saw the stickers on every telephone reminding you that your conversations may be subject to monitoring. Well, guess who did the monitoring. Yep, that was us. ...

Great man & American Says the cabal has A Russian mole in the Whitehouse. I believe Flynn, Roger sleazsy Stone, Manafort, Boris Epsteyn, Donnie Jr. Trump sr. , Jack Kingston... Steve Bannon, Steve Miller... Take your pick. Also I have no doubt Comey & the NY FBI are moles too.
