Georgia settles suit challenging voter registration process

ATLANTA (AP) — A spokeswoman for Georgia's top election official says the state has settled a federal lawsuit that argued thousands of residents had been blocked from registering to vote.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (http://on-ajc.com/2lpfH6X ) reports that Georgia will no longer reject voter registration applications that don't exactly match identifying information in state and federal databases.

Candice Broce is a spokeswoman for Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp. Broce says the settlement was advised by the state's attorney general and will avoid the cost of further litigation.

The suit brought in September by the NAACP and other organizations argued that black, Latino and Asian-American applicants were more likely than whites to be rejected because of the policy.

I knew Kemp before he was elected. He was a young good old boy developer/contractor before being handpicked by the GA GOP to run for office.

SoS Kemp's #1 job is to make voting as difficult as possible for Georgians, especially minorities.

The groups that brought the suit will now have to make sure that the state complies with the ruling.
