The Latest: Trump to meet Senate Dems over his agenda

Source: Associated Press

7:55 a.m.

President Donald Trump is expected to have lunch Thursday with a group of moderate Senate Democrats who could play a key role in his legislative agenda.

The lunch is expected to include Sens. Joe Manchin of West Virginia, Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota, Joe Donnelly of Indiana and Jon Tester of Montana.

Trump faces a narrow Republican majority in the Senate and hopes to secure some support among Democrats for his agenda and the confirmation of Supreme Court nominee Judge Neil Gorsuch. All four Senate Democrats face re-election in 2018.

The lunch was first reported by USA Today and confirmed by the Senate offices. The White House did not immediately provide details on the lunch, which is also expected to include Republican lawmakers.

DT is such an offensive person, totally lacking in diplomatic skills. He will try to bully the Senators causing enormous push back, etc.

He literally behaves that way. It's not just an act or campaigning. There's another thread about State not being able to get him to act like an adult on phone calls to heads of state.

work with him on anything, period, and still be considered Dems I'd donate to.

Any move by those 4 to co-operate with that orange swine will result in me not donating to the DSCC, if the Dems don't kick the co-opted co-operators to the curb.

I'll still give to Dem Senators, but won't risk my money going to a dRumpf quisling.

Leadership better lay down the law.

Manchin's next door to my state, and I've been watching him with displeasure for a while now. He's no Robert Byrd.

Don't know Donnelly at all, good to get a Dem in red IN.

I act on Heitkamp's and Tester's e-action requests when they come my way, and I understand they have to deal with political realities in their sates.

But if they cross the line too much, too obviously, they'll lose my (admittedly small) financial support.

I'm glad Sen Tester is doing the right thing.

looking to build a consensus or be conciliatory. On the contrary, he is trying to cut a few of the most electorally vulnerable off from the pack, hoping to flip them.

The republican tax-dodger is not a freakin republican king. He's America's servant. Remind him.

Well, maybe not the lion, but the hyena. I hope they record the threats he makes to these Senators - West Virginia coal country, North Dakota and Montana energy producers, Indiana - not sure that form of stick he'll use there.

... anyone that agrees with 45's agenda need to be ousted. If recalls are available, initiate them. Resistance requires immediate action. Let them know beforehand the consequences of their actions.

Let the whole Democratic Party know of the consequences. It's time for the Democratic Party to stop reaching across the aisle. This nation is in a huge crisis. Anyone playing Benedict Arnold needs to be dealt with.

By forcing Democrats to oppose 45 full stop, you're also warning the regime that it has a resistance movement to deal with, and maybe, they will restrain themselves. If not, we can still oppose them, and may even stop some of their agenda.
