Gabbard to repay cost of Syria trip

Source: The Hill

Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) will “personally reimburse the cost” of her controversial visit to Syria earlier this month, according to her office.

“Though the trip has met every requirement of the House Ethics Committee, the congresswoman has decided to reimburse [the Arab American Community Center for Economic and Social Services-Ohio] for the trip because it has become a distraction from the important issue at hand,” the statement read.

But Gabbard stood by her trip, which has drawn condemnation from lawmakers on both sides of the aisle.

“Do the American people want their taxpayer dollars to continue to be used in support of militant groups working hand-in-hand with al-Qaeda and ISIS in the effort to overthrow the Syrian government?” the statement said.

She beat them, and they're going to primary her again in 2018. They're trying to get her out of there.

to reimburse the reimbursement. Kissing up to murderous dictators used to be considered a bad thing in the USA.

Being against war and interventionism doesn't mean you go meet with Assad.

How does the world improve if Assad falls and the power vacuum is filled by al nusra? The moderate rebels we've been funding, and who have been fighting alongside Islamic jihadists, are a minority and will either be purged or join forces with more powerful rebels aligned with al Qaeda. The situation in Syria is fucking crazy.

If Assad falls it isn't a given who will take over as you acknowledge the situation in Syria is "fucking crazy". This isn't about the world improving. It's about stopping the death in Syria. At least that should be the only focus. It's very likely that a radical Islamist state will be formed if Assad is overthrown in Syria. There's no telling if they will continue to attack their neighbors in pursuit of land and power.

It's very likely the U.S. is going to stop funding and helping the rebels. Russia will continue to back up Assad. The fighting will continue and more innocent civilians will die and Donny will do nothing to help them.

Al-Nusra's caliphate is same as MAGA in the U.S. or Brexit in the U.K. It's all about hating the other. It's meant to oppress those that are different and impose their values on that other. They'll do it by any means. That can be terrorist attacks, state vs state warfare or hell cyber attacks.

Your concerns about the continued Syrian conflict. Still, don't address or justify why Gabbard would go see Assad and then regurgitate his lies. Also, doesn't explain why DU is pro-war for not wanting a serving Representative to go on a PR trip for a foreign leader.
