Trump defends refugee policy, attacks New York Times

Source: USA Today

President Trump, the subject of protests, lawsuits, and global criticism over his new ban on refugees from seven Middle East countries, took to social media on Sunday to defend his policy as a counter-terrorism measure (and attack The New York Times).

"Our country needs strong borders and extreme vetting, NOW," Trump tweeted. "Look what is happening all over Europe and, indeed, the world - a horrible mess."

A federal judge in New York has issued a stay of Trump's travel ban order pending what will likely be months of litigation.

The new president has also criticized news coverage of his administration — particularly The New York Times, recipient of a critical Trump tweet for two days running. "Somebody with aptitude and conviction should buy the FAKE NEWS and failing @nytimes and either run it correctly or let it fold with dignity!" Trump tweeted.

Maybe Sheldon Adelson or the Koch Brothers will do him a solid and try to buy out the NYT.

While we should be focused on the harm he is doing, of course, it's almost impossible not to be stupefied every time you hear him speak. He uses the same limited selection of words over and over again with plenty of adverbs such as "really" and "very." There's no sophistication. It's especially noticeable on the heels of such an eloquent president in Barack Obama.

Most of the 19 hijackers on the planes that crashed into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a field in Shanksville, Pa., were from Saudi Arabia. The rest were from the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Lebanon. None of those countries are on Mr. Trump’s visa ban list.

Features interviews from intelligence agencies. A terrorist isn't likely to use the refugee program since the US has many tourists.
