Petition calling on UK to cancel Trump state visit reaches 100,000 signatures

Source: Independent

The UK government responds to all petitions that receive more than 10,000 signatures, and at 100,000 signatures it must consider them for debate in Parliament.

Citing Mr Trump's "well documented misogyny and vulgarity", the petition calls for Mr Trump to be allowed into the country, but not invited to meet the Queen.

-snip-

The petition met the criteria for consideration by 12.45pm on Sunday, just a few hours after exceeding 10,000 signatures. At one point it was signed over 56,000 times in an hour.

That should be one interesting debate in Parliament. Bet it will get plenty of media coverage here.

Editing to add the link to that petition, which currently has just over a quarter million signatures:

They'd probably have millions of signatures already if they didn't have that limitation.

But they should limit the signatures, given this is about a state visit to the UK.

He'll claim she loved him and that they had a great talk.

He will brag about how royalty favors him and only he could get positive results from a meeting with the Queen.

In short, he'll lie as he always does.

We all know he'll be vulgar and coarse, without once thinking he has said or done anything improper.

If you revere your monarchy and think the Queen should be respected, then the last thing you want is for her to in a room with that low-brow vulgarian. Because he will be insulting and not have the faintest clue that he is being so. He'll be rude and without any of the social graces whatsoever. He'll display a lack of protocol and act as if he is the only monarch in the room.

He'll bring Ivanka with him as his showpiece. As if her manners will somehow make him look good.

The Queen should not grant the oaf an audience. Not because she isn't up to the task of putting Trump in his place, but because it serves no good purpose to placate the ego of a monster.

CSPAN usually broadcasts (rebroadcast) the UK Parliament's "Question Time" with the Prime Minister on Sunday nights - https://www.c-span.org/series/?PrimeMinisterQue

Next weekend's broadcast might capture the current issues post-May visit (although sometimes if the schedule permits, they may broadcast live)...

I used to watch that on CSPAN through the '90s and early 2000s. The raucous House of Commons is a sight to behold!

Such a nice contrast to the robotic, almost Politburo-like reactions of Congress to the SOTU, especially during the W years. . . .I agree that this week's could be especially good!

With these kinds of numbers, Parliament is supposed to consider this topic for a debate.
