Woman impersonated lawmakers wife, snuck into GOP retreat

By Erica Werner??AP January 28 at 10:43 PM

WASHINGTON A woman impersonated the wife of a GOP lawmaker and snuck into the congressional Republican retreat in Philadelphia Thursday, the same day President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence appeared, retreat organizers told lawmakers late Saturday.

The revelation came as the nonprofit Congressional Institute that organizes the retreat investigates how audio of the gathering leaked. In an email to GOP lawmakers, institute president Mark Strand did not directly say that the impersonator was the same person who leaked the audio, but that was the implication.

The Congressional Institute is continuing to investigate this breach in order to fully understand how it happened and to ensure it does not happen again, said Strands email, which was obtained by The Associated Press.

The audio was leaked to several news outlets and first reported by The Washington Post. It reveals lawmakers airing concerns about the practical difficulties and political risks of repealing and replacing President Barack Obamas health care law, among other things. There is also audio of a question-and-answer session with Pence, indicating that the intruder was in the same room as the vice president, which raises security concerns. It was not immediately clear if she was also present for the session with Trump, who spoke before Pence but did not engage in a private discussion with lawmakers.

Maybe it wasn't actually a woman...

And if the audio was given with confidentiality, they might never find out who the informant was.

We need to run these bastards out of our house before it's too late.

committing massive voter fraud across the nation during the last election lol
Then again that could be why they are suddenly chiming in as being opposed to the voter fraud investigation Trump wants and if thats the case and they didnt tell him then that could be why they are panicked over such an investigation.
Would be funny as hell to if that was the case and if one of their own brought their house of cards tumbling down.

I expect whatever outlets have it are carefully reviewing it for other info and probably tossed out some tidbits as a teaser. Probably quite a bit was recorded from the sessions, but I expect some of it was probably procedural. It will be interesting to see if they were able to get any handouts or other presentation materials.

18. "snuck" is fine. It runs counter to the usual American regularization of verbs
Sun Jan 29, 2017, 08:52 AM
Jan 2017

For example, the verb "to dive" had a past tense "dove" but now that is almost always "dived".

drove --> drived
sought --> seeked
slew --> slayed
froze --> freezed

But "snuck" is counter-trend:

http://blog.dictionary.com/snuck-or-sneaked/

Like leaked as the past tense of leak, sneaked was the original past tense and past participle for sneak, which means “to move in a stealthy or furtive manner.” Used as early as the late 1800s, snuck has become the standard variant past tense and past participle of the verb sneak.

http://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2007/10/harvard-scientists-predict-the-future-of-the-past-tense/

Just as genes and organisms undergo natural selection, words — specifically, irregular verbs that do not take an “-ed” ending in the past tense — are subject to powerful pressure to “regularize” as the language develops. {...}

Lieberman, Michel, and colleagues built upon previous study of seven competing rules for verb conjugation in Old English, six of which have gradually faded from use over time. They found that the one surviving rule, which adds an “-ed” suffix to simple past and past participle forms, contributes to the evolutionary decay of irregular English verbs according to a specific mathematical function: It regularizes them at a rate that is inversely proportional to the square root of their usage frequency.

In other words, a verb used 100 times less frequently will evolve 10 times as fast.

https://notexactlyrocketscience.wordpress.com/2007/10/10/the-evolution-of-the-past-tense-%E2%80%93-how-verbs-change-over-time/

In the Old English of Beowulf, seven different rules competed for governance of English verbs, and only about 75% followed the “-ed” rule. As the centuries ticked by, the irregular verbs became fewer and far between. With new additions to the lexicon taking on the standard regular form (‘googled’ and ‘emailed’), the irregulars face massive pressure to regularise and conform.

Today, less than 3% of verbs are irregular but they wield a disproportionate power. The ten most commonly used English verbs – be, have, do, go say, can, will, see, take and get – are all irregular. Lieberman found that this is because irregular verbs are weeded out much more slowly if they are commonly used.
