Without evidence, Trump tells lawmakers 3-5 million illegal ballots cost him the popular vote

Source: Washington Post

Days after being sworn in, President Trump insisted to congressional leaders invited to a reception at the White House that he would have won the popular vote had it not been for millions of illegal votes, according to people familiar with the meeting.

Trump has repeatedly claimed, without evidence, that widespread voter fraud caused him to lose the popular vote to Hillary Clinton, even while he clinched the presidency with an electoral college victory.

Two people familiar with the meeting said Trump spent about 10 minutes at the top of the gathering with Republican and Democratic lawmakers rehashing the campaign. Trump also told them that between 3 million and 5 million illegal votes caused him to lose the popular vote.

Trump lies again! The needling about his popular vote loss must really be getting to him. It's not even one lie a day, it's several.

clearly Trump and his cartel plan to operate with their own set of facts, at least externally. the truth value of any given proposition is irrelevant.

instead, i assume Trump plans to act as if the 3-5 million people who cost him the popular vote did vote illegally.

expect voting to be much harder for all of us in 2018 and, needless to say, 2020. Trump needs only to ramp up the existing GOP strategy of putting specific ID constraints on voting and voila! "problem solved"

we need a full-on broadside effort to ensure every Democratic voter has the full slate of ID necessary to vote in their particular state. otherwise it won't matter what else we do going forward.

Even Mike Huckabee Has No Clue What Donald Trump’s Voter Fraud Claims Are About
“I’m not sure why he brought it up.”
01/24/2017 10:20 am ET

President Donald Trump’s false claim that millions of people voted illegally in the election even has former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) ― a steadfast Trump supporter ― scratching his head.

Trump told leaders on Capitol Hill on Monday that he only lost the popular vote because 3 million to 5 million “illegals” voted for Democrat Hillary Clinton. It’s a claim that he’s repeatedly made since November, but there’s no evidence to support it.

In a Tuesday interview with Fox Business Network, Huckabee said he didn’t know why Trump kept bringing it up.

“I have no evidence whatsoever, and I don’t know that anyone does, that there are that many illegal people who voted. And frankly it doesn’t matter. He’s the president and whether 20 million people voted, it doesn’t matter anymore,” Huckabee said. “I’m not sure why he brought it up.”
