Kellyanne Conway Says Trump's 'Not Going to Release His Tax Returns'
Source: Mediaite

Kellyanne Conway said rather bluntly on ABCs This Week today that President Trumps not going to release his tax returns.
George Stephanopoulos brought up the White House petition posted on Friday demanding Trumps tax returns be released. 100,000 signatures is the threshold to get a White House answer. There are currently over 200,000 signatures.
Conway had this to say about that:
The White House response is that hes not going to release his tax returns. We litigated this all through the election. People didnt care, they voted for him.

(17,018 posts)you put off people asking by lying and saying that d.ump was being audited and couldn't release the tax returns, but he would as soon as he was done with being audited. You are a big fat liar and another Putin puppet traitor.
I wish she was told this.

and that he'd release them when
that was done. What a fuckface.

(1,702 posts)Anonymous, intel community and about to be fired IRS folks= just a matter of time. But, who will have any legal power to do anything about it?
Best to keep posting, tweeting and pointing to the illegitimacy of his presidency and he will at some point melt down. Hopefully on camera for all of us to see.

(4,462 posts)It would conclusively prove Trump's claims about the intelligence community and Republican claims about a politicized IRS and federal workforce. It would justify a crackdown on career federal workers and their unions that would make PATCO look insignificant. It would be a gift to Republicans, as it would energize their base, offend a great many Americans who believe in privacy and government accountability and professionalism, and justify long-standing conservative plans to eviscerate the size and scope of the federal government.
Moreover, except to activists, the issue is mostly dead. Trump won the election without releasing the returns. Further, at most, they're just very embarrassing (if there was something criminal, there would have been indictments long ago), but the Republicans will not both impeach and remove Trump over it, and the repercussions of an unlawful release would do far more damage to the institutions of government and the intelligence community. Also, once that line is crossed, expect similar embarrassing leaks concerning Democrats, far eclipsing the recent Clinton hacking. Even if Trump was somehow removed from office, we would then have President Pence. He's basically the more ideologically conservative, politically competent and generally scandal-fee version of Trump who has more support among Republicans in Congress. How exactly would that be better for our Party?
Trump is president whether we like it or not. As Obama reminded conservatives when he took office, elections have consequences, and he won. This applies to Trump as much as Obama.
All the delegitimization, impeachment and call for unlawful action talk does is make us look foolish and desperate. We need to stop acting like entitled, spoiled children, and begin the real hard work of winning elections. Recall that Obama took office with large majorities in both houses of Congress, including a filibuster proof majority in the Senate. We talked about how it was the end of the Republican Party. Nevertheless, while Obama was elected again, the Republican gains these last 8 years have been as astonishing as they've been disappointing. We need to learn those lessons. The alternative is 8 years of Trump, and possible worse.

A leak would only be a good thing.

(4,462 posts)Americans, particularly since the issue was front and center during in the election.
I similarly believe you fail to appreciate the potential repercussions and damage to the federal government in the event of such a leak. The Republicans tremendously benefitted from the unlawful IRS scrutiny of conservative groups. A leak of a sitting president's tax returns would cause political shockwaves that would not benefit our Party or maintain faith in government institutions.
Also, the hypothetical absolute best scenario is that Trump resigns or is impeached. That would leave us with President Pence, a far more competent and formidable political opponent supported by most Republicans in Congress. I, for one, would much rather have Trump in office in 2018 and 2020, than Pence.

(3,022 posts)there is no telling what he will do or what he will bring out in others. Vice President Pence is more competent evil and that is scary, but he isn't World War Three scary.

Didn't the cons "work the ref" on this one? They were abusing charitable exemption status and the IRS was just doing its job. The fact that cons sicced 'puke lawmakers on the IRS and successfully cowed them doesn't mean the IRS was doing something wrong. There were liberal groups under scrutiny too. My suspicion is that the #s of dubious exemptions were higher for con "charities".
In the present case, nowadays the info could be obtained other than from an IRS employee. And, we are talking pre-presidential, not presidential, tax returns, that the asshole hid during the campaign.

(2,559 posts)Since about 2000, at least that's what I've read.
Western banks wouldn't touch him after his many bankruptcies left them holding the bag.
Even Trump's own son, Don Jr., admitted to heavy Russian investment in Trump Inc.
So Trump has lied... again... why is anyone surprised?
I recall he also promised to reveal his real hair situation if he was elected president. Not holding my breath (not that I care).
His speech yesterday to the CIA was a colossal bad joke. As will be Trump's Presidency in general.

This will not end well for the #IPOTUS or the republicans.

(2,559 posts)It's the EC conundrum. A bunch of piddling red states over-ruling the popular vote.
Not to mention the piddling going on in that Moscow hotel room.
Although I'm pretty sure Trump will self-destruct during his first term, anyway. It just won't be very pleasant in the interim.

LastLiberal in PalmSprings
(12,591 posts)California popular vote:
Clinton: 8,753,788
Trump: 4,483,810
National popular vote:
Clinton: 65,845,063
Trump: 62,980,160
If California was magically removed from the national popular vote:
Clinton: 57,091,275
Trump: 58,496,350
So, technically they're right. Of course, if you don't count Michigan, Florida and Pennsylvania electoral votes, Hillary wins. #AlternateFacts
And if they only counted my single vote, Hillary would have won.
But the Post Mortem Forum is closed, so now it's time to start calling Senators re: the Cabinet.
