House Speaker Paul D. Ryan walked a delicate line on the issue of immigration one considerably more delicate than President-elect Donald Trumps during a [link:http://www.cnn.com/2017/01/12/politics/paul-ryan-town-hall/index.htmlnationally televised town hall meeting] hosted by CNN on Thursday.
Confronted by an undocumented Oklahoma woman, who is protected from deportation under an Obama administration program, Ryan (R-Wis.) said he was working with Trumps transition team to find a good, humane solution for the families protected by the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program and said there would be no deportation force coming for her family.
Do you think that I should be deported? the woman, Angelica Villalobos, asked Ryan with her daughter at her side.
No, Ryan said, before Villalobos even finished her questions. I can see that you love your daughter, that youre a nice person that has a great future ahead of you, and I hope your futures here.

UPDATE
Ryan Still Pushing Medicare Overhaul While Acknowledging Break With Trump
ByTIERNEY SNEEDPublishedJANUARY 13, 2017, 10:03 AM EDT
House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) reiterated his desires to overhaul Medicare on a CNN town hall Thursday night, while acknowledging that he and President-elect Donald Trump -- who promised during the campaign not to cut the benefits program -- were not exactly on the same page on the issue.
"We've had a couple of conversations about it. Look, we don't all agree on everything. It's - I think people kind of know that," Ryan said, when asked how he was going to change Trump's mind on the issue.
It's not just Trump. Senate Republicans have also been cool to the idea of embarking on a privatization of Medicare, with some saying that they would only be willing to do so with full buy-in by the President and Democrats. Dems, meanwhile, intend to make Medicare a flashpoint in the confirmation hearings for Rep. Tom (R-GA), Trump's pick for Health and Human Services secretary. Not long before he was named for the position, Price indicated he wanted to move on privatizing Medicare in the months to come.
On CNN, Ryan outlined in broad strokes his so-called "premium support" plan, which would give seniors a fixed amount to spend on private insurance plans, with the option to stay on Medicare. A major question is whether that system would prompt Medicare to wither, nonetheless.

And if Elected: What President Trump Could or Couldnt Do

It depends on what Mr. Trump wants to do. His signature issues are immigration and trade. He could not build the Mexican wall without congressional support. But he could order immigration authorities to deport unauthorized immigrants.
And he could bar Muslims from entering the country under existing law, which authorizes him to bar classes of aliens whose entry he determines would be detrimental to the interests of the United States.

(218 posts)Paul Ryan thinks he's in charge.
He's leading this ballyhoo. He is going to do everything he can to destroy not just Obama's legacy, but FDRs as well.
My guess, they are going to ram through all they can, with or without the Trumpster's approval. Then they'll dare him to oppose them.
Will he?
Stay tuned. Because I think Trump sees himself as this lone ranger type. He doesn't have a clue as to how government works. He's got so many hands trying operate him--Bannon, Manafort, Pence, et al, that congress thinks they can outfox him.
They'd best be careful.
Does Putin want Donald to succeed or to fail? That's the man behind the curtain. If Putin's dream is to show that Western Democracy is a sham, they they'll want Trump to explode. If they want to manipulate laws in their favor, they'll do their best to see that he succeeds.
Which will it be?
