BREAKING NEWS
Donald Trump wants Republicans to repeal the Affordable Care Act immediately and replace it "shortly thereafter," he told The Times
By MAGGIE HABERMAN and MARGOT SANGER-KATZJAN. 10, 2017
President-elect Donald J. Trump pressed Republicans on Tuesday to move forward with the immediate repeal of the Affordable Care Act and to replace it very quickly thereafter, saying, We have to get to business. Obamacare has been a catastrophic event.
Mr. Trumps position undercuts Republican leaders who want a quick vote to repeal President Obamas signature domestic achievement but who also want to wait as long as two to three years to come up with an alternative. But he was also challenging the resolve of nervous Republicans in Congress who do not want any vote on a repeal until that replacement exists.
Mr. Trump, who seemed unclear about the timing of already scheduled votes in Congress this week, demanded a repeal vote probably some time next week, and said the replace will be very quickly or simultaneously, very shortly thereafter.
That demand is very likely impossible. Republicans in Congress are nowhere close to agreement on a major health bill that would replace President Obamas signature domestic achievement. A number of Republicans in the House and Senate have said publicly that they wanted to hold off on voting to eviscerate the health law until a replacement measure could be negotiated.

(58,785 posts)on the Republicans' complete lack of any plan for replacement. Only repeal. Also on the fact that replacement with equal or better would be impossible.
Go, Trump. Keep moving fast and keep to open areas. Don't let those handlers maneuver you into a closed space. And be very, very careful what you drink.

(19,863 posts)..stay steadfast on replacement as well. There are over 30Million people on ACA right now who will lose their healthcare. I'm not okay with that.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)yes, but really, repealing the ACA was just an emotional populist issue he grabbed onto to get the crowds cheering for him.
It's the laissez-faire anti-government extremists, like Paul Ryan in congress and the Kochs in dark shadows, who have every intention of repealing, then delaying until resignation sets in, and NEVER replacing. They run congress and they are in the crowd of hyenas surrounding Trump, but he is not one of them.
Of course, Trump has no particular ideology and almost no understanding of or interest in most issues. As a number of observers have pointed out, the last person out of Trump's presence is most likely to have his schmoozing rewarded.

But you know - maybe they're those secret couriers he's talking about? Passing messages so others can take and make phone calls for him, like Paulie did in Goodfellas?

trump doesn't have any comprehension of how complex creating a health care system is, and he's talking about replacing it "shortly".

(8,964 posts)Many times without success. Obama finally delivered the goods, imperfect as it was but a vast improvement for many who had been blackballed due to a pre-existing illness, or inability to afford insurance in order to get the care they needed. So will today's GOP be able to repeal ACA and come up with a better and/or more cost-effective plan, retain the current record level of insured individuals, while keeping the U.S. health care system solvent? Even the most strident right-wing reactionary would do well to not hold their breath at this point.

(137 posts)Without the slightest notion of what he's asking people to do. He still doesn't get he's not the CEO of the US, he doesn't sign their paychecks and they don't have to jump through hoops just because he demands they do so. I really believe he thinks this is nothing more than negotiating with a few insurance companies to come to terms--He has absolutely no understanding as to the complex structure of the ACA. The GOP knows damn well there is no other plan that will give their voters the same coverage they have right now for less unless they tweak the ACA or go single payer. And we all know single payer isn't anywhere near their bailiwick. The Twitter rants on this are going be epic.

(8,964 posts)KellyAnne promised that part. After all, it'll get replaced with a great and fantastic law that is much better, once it get conjured up by Congress at some point down the road. And if one has a pre-existing condition...?? No worries then?? Donald Trump inspires so much confidence, and by golly is he ever consistent with his remarks!

.....Mr. Trump issued a political warning to Democrats who might stand in his way, saying he would campaign against lawmakers, especially in states that he won in November.
It may not get approved the first time, and it may not get approved the second time, but the Democrats who will try not to approve it will be at risk, warning that they have 10 people coming up for re-election in 2018. That alluded to Democratic senators in states he won.
I won some of those states by numbers that nobody has seen. I will be out there campaigning, he said........................

(56,828 posts)which could very well be some sort of "False Flag" event, I suspect that Trump's already poor approval ratings will go down a few points every few months. Remember, by the time 2006 and 2007 rolled around, George W Bush had gone from a 90% approval rating post 9/11 to somewhere in the upper 20s. (Stephen Colbert at that awesome White House Correspondent's Dinner referred to those 20 percenters as the "backwash" if I recall.)
He's already around 37-51 approval now. On his current path, he'll be in the high 20s a year from now.

(733 posts)Chaos, uncertainty and fear are the basic building blocks of demagoguery. Trump does not have policy positions; his policy is to consolidate his power and silence his enemies. Chaos destabilizes government operations, creates fear which leads to demands by the people for strong leadership, i.e. loss of civil rights.
Some examples of gratuitous, vindictive chaos making:
-Requesting resignation of all political appointees overseas. Usually an administration keeps on these people to provide continuity and safe transfer of information during the time, which could be months, before their replacements are installed. It is in invitation to uncertainty and vulnerability to other nations' actions.
-Appointing people that are inexperienced in any form of public service, that want wholesale demolition of government agencies, and people who will follow his demands blindly. This will decimate the ranks of civil servants who will leave, pushed or voluntarily.
-Refusing to vet any of his appointees, allowing the chance for scandals to arise that will slow the actual job of governing, as well as protecting any conflicts of interest from being uncovered.

(36,829 posts)Democrats should STOP calling it Obamacare.
The GOP has framed it as stopping Obamacare which is an evil name to their base.
Start calling it only by the name 'ACA' and local names such as Kynect which people who have it like.
Many of the base do not know they are the same.
Keep hammering that republicans want to repeal what many of their base wants to keep.

(54 posts)need to come up with a good workable single payer alternative (or at least a public option to buy into Medicare) and clearly explain how it will cut costs. Explain that it will work like Medicare, which most folks think is a good system. Dangle it out there on all the news shows and give the public the opportunity to call their reps and tell them that's what they want as a replacement.

(15,286 posts)Dems should draft a single payer or medicare-for-all bill, then call it TRUMPcare (TeRrific Ultimate Medical Plan). With Trump, flattery will get you everywhere. Trump won't even care what's in it, just that his name is on it. If McConnell, Ryan, GOPers try to block it, Trump will be all over twitter berating them with nasty name-calling.
Besides, David Cay Johnson was on a show a couple days ago and said healthcare is one thing Trump really believes in. It's win-win.

But it is very true. Be careful what you wish for, it may come true. It will be interesting to see how the gop handles this. They have to save face and honor their campaign pledge to dismantle the ACA and yet must walk a fine line as to not wound too many of their base. Otherwise, They risk losing that voting block for the midterms.
So now they need to repeal immediately and they have nothing to replace it with. Bwahahaha. You would think they would have spent SOME time in the last 2 years to address this. But, no. Not a damn thing. Just a lot more hot air and bullshit jaw jaw.
That is some seriously bad leadership.
