New Mexico rekindles efforts to reinstate death penalty

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP)

A Republican state lawmaker in New Mexico is reviving efforts to reinstate the death penalty as an option for convicted killers of police, children and corrections officers.

Rep. Monica Youngblood of Albuquerque has pre-filed a bill that would bring back punishment by lethal injection to New Mexico. A spokesman for GOP Gov. Susana Martinez said Monday she supports the measure.

A similar bill was approved by the state's Republican-controlled House of Representatives in October during a special legislative session, but never taken up by the Senate. Democrats retook majority control of the Legislature in November elections.

Last year's proposal became fodder for election-season mailers accusing Democratic candidates of being weak on crime. Leading Democratic lawmakers including Senate majority leader Peter Wirth say they are disinclined to take up the legislation.

She's is a lame duck, famous now for being a raging, lying alcoholic (too many audio tapes on utube, which is one reason DT did not balance his ticket with a Hispanic female). She has made the centerpiece of her administration flunking and humiliating disadvantaged 3rd graders. Im not kidding either. It has been a sad day for children. Oh yeah, she pushes creation science too. She no longer has any credibility. I don't think it will happen. We are a blue state, a minority population, Hispanics and Native Americans, is the majority. Even though we are a poor state, People are very AWARE of the implications of discrimination with the death penalty.

My life is worth far less than the life of a police officer. So is yours, whoever you are, assuming you're just common pond scum like me.

Democrats oppose the death penalty. Republicans and fake Democrats support it. Let's see who falls where.

How is it that the rest of the world manages quite will without a death penalty?

Secondly, consider the company the death penalty keeps. Saudi Arabia. China. Aren't we better than that?

first because this state likes to switch back and forth between parties and second because simple country folk loved her name.

She's hoping to get her jollies by killing by proxy because of the Victoria Martens case. Martens was a 10 year old girl who had been pimped out by her mother for years and was strangled by her mother's boyfriend and his cousin, her body dismembered and then burned. It's the kind of horrific case this state seems to specialize in.

While I'm not keen on sharing the planet with any of those people, I don't want them to get the easy out of the DP, either. Fortunately, the lege doesn't seem to be falling for the hysteria. The DP is expensive and this is a poor state; in addition, the effective drugs for lethal injection are not being exported to the US because of the DP and they're using a short acting benzodiazepine, instead, meaning the prisoner wakes up while they're futzing around and is fully conscious while he suffocates to death. These are the reasons the lege probably won't reinstate it.

folks who don't care that we can actually prevent the NEXT child murder if we spend those monies on Crisis Intervention, better fund our Children, Youth and Family Department CYFD funding our Child Protective Agency plus....there's the possibility of executing an innocent man or woman...these are all facts, but I you just want to feel good & mean like our Governor, you take the path she is taking, feelings & opinions instead of facts and science.
