State senate candidate drops out, says she’ll be part of alternate government
Source: Cedar Rapids Gazette
UPDATE: Iowa Republicans plan to choose another candidate to run in Senate District 34 against Democrat Liz Mathis, after Randi Shannon bailed on the race to pursue leadership in an alternate form of government.
Shannon, who describes herself as an entrepreneur and homeschooling mom, released a four-page message Friday saying she is now the senator of the Republic of the United States of America and the Republic for Iowa.
The group believes that Americas original form of government, a collection of republics, was usurped in 1871 by a corporation called the United States Corporation, according to the groups website.

Apparently Iowa has their fair share of crackpots. The Cedar Rapids Gazette website has a four page letter she wrote explaining her decision.

The Republican candidate for a state Senate seat in eastern Iowa has ended her campaign and instead declared herself a U.S. Senator for the state of Iowa.
In a letter dated July 4, the candidate, Randi Shannon of Coralville, argued that the legitimate federal government of the United States was replaced by illegitimate corporate government in 1871 and has been operating since then in violation of the U.S. Constitution.
She learned this fact just recently, she said, and has come to believe it after months of research.
Dropping her bid for state office was a rejection of that illegitimate government. Now, she said she has been appointed to serve as a U.S. senator in the recently revived and constitutionally legitimate Republic of the United States of America. She was placed in the office, she said, by Iowas four U.S. House members in the Republic government ...

(118,295 posts)They spew truckloads of verbal manure -- but they apparently really believe the crap they spew, they're sometimes organized, and they can be quite a nuisance
Phony court judgments and phony arrest warrants issued by these wackos have too often in the past been assumed to be legitimate by folk who should have known better, causing all sorts of headaches. That they believe what they say, frequently leads to a dead-set-and-determined-to-kill-or-be-killed attitude, as illustrated by some links down thread
But it's also la-la-land. Look up what they're screeching loudly about: the District of Columbia Organic Act of 1871, which unified the various DC governments that existed before then. They have some crackpot theory about how the District of Columbia Organic Act of 1871 replaced our earlier constitutional government by an all powerful corporation called "The United States"

If they did attempt it, does the US have the ability or safeguards to stop it?

Didn't work out too well for the rebels-without-a-clue the past few times this has happened. We'll be fine as far as this specific scenario. Remember Waco? Yeah, totally botched operation, but also didn't trigger the popular uprising the Branch Davidians had hoped for.

An antigovernment sovereign citizen who was shot dead Sunday night by police in Arizona appears to have been involved with a major sovereign group called the Republic for the united States of America (RuSA).
William Foust, 50, of Page, Ariz., was shot by Officer Shawn Wilson during a fight in which Foust allegedly attempted to wrest Wilsons Taser from him, the Arizona Daily Sun reported yesterday.
The officer was responding to a domestic violence call at B & T Marine, a boat rental business owned by Foust and his wife. Foust fled the scene before police arrived but returned to carry on a heated argument with the female victim. He was upset, loud, and confrontational with the officer, the Cononino County Sheriffs Office told reporters.
Foust, described by the Sun as a well-known Page businessman, was also a well-known sovereign citizen whose hostile reaction to a speeding ticket landed him in jail in December on contempt charges. In typical sovereign fashion, Foust dragged his feet on the ticket for months clogging the court with a jumble of meaningless papers, refusing to acknowledge the judges authority or tell the judge his date of birth, and failing to appear at a scheduled hearing. Sovereigns typically believe they are not subject to the laws of the United States ...

There's a Canadian branch as well. From your link:
Tim Turner, a former commercial fishermen known to followers as Mr. President, has outlined a plan to reinhabit the U.S. government. He also claims the government has tried to assassinate him and that all industrialized nations have treaties with aliens.
FROM YOUTUBE
Falls into so many of these storylines, from Alex Collier being abducted by the Andromedians or 'good aliens' who was quoted by some Occupy people in London with 'Why do we have to pay to live on our own planet?' in a poster at their first round of actions.
Those as opposed to the evil aliens of Turner, and so many others who claim we've been living under the rule of a Nazi/UFO/Lucifierian global cult. Any attempt, using science, history or political science to discredit this is met by their contentions that these alien, disembodied entities can travel back and forth in time and are not restrained by time and space like all you sheeple have been tricked into believing actually exists, like the Federal Reserve. I could name a lot more of these voices from the ether, but.
They also are among the spreaders of the meme that there is no difference between any political party, that they are all a front for these entities, like something out of the film of invading aliens controlling our minds, THEY LIVE. Another thing going is the global consciousness thing, which probably exists in some format, in the media if nothing else.
Yet they say they want to protect the nation-states, most especially their interpretation of the Constitution, but in generally what they want is not that document, as they say the Founding Fathers are also part of the satanic, Masonic, ancient Babylonian banking scam. They want the Articles of the Confederation, not that pesky stuff like the Bill of Rights and the amendments.
It's endless, I'm not disputing what you've said, really, but there is a lot of Tea Party and Ron Paul mythology. The Birthers are part of this alternate reality, so that even if Obama was born in the USA, it doesn't change their view that he is a front man for extra terrestrial evil doers and they are arming themselves to fight like something out of a Star Wars movie. This doesn't leave you much room to argue with the true believers.
While this and some of the other constructs have their appeal, the fact is we are arguing about beliefs in the nature of reality as difficult to combat as religion. Or as simple as turning off the electrical grid and stopping the wackiness from being ingested into their brains.

Last week, police made a startling announcement in their investigation of a fire that killed a father and son in their rural West Virginia mobile home in January. They revealed that David Hutzler, 56, and his 9-year-old son James, known as Mack, were each shot in the head before the trailer burned. The scene bore all the signs of a murder-suicide.
Investigators found accelerants used to start the fire scattered around the property in Glengary, W.Va. An autopsy later determined that one bullet had grazed the young boys chin before a second bullet took his life a detail that left terrifying questions about the young boys final moments.
Due to the findings in the investigation it is believed that David Hutzler fatally shot his son James Mack Hutzler and set fire to his residence before taking his own life, police told local newspapers as they wrapped up their investigation.
A Hatewatch investigation has now confirmed that Hutzler was once a congressman in the Republic for the united States of America (RuSA), one of the largest and most organized antigovernment sovereign citizens groups active in the United States today. Led by president James Timothy Turner of Ozark, Ala., and with representatives in nearly every state, the group says the federal government is illegitimate and it is reinhabiting the true government ...

By serving as your Senator in The Republic Congress, I am restrained to voting in line with Our Republic for The United States Constitution, which by the way does not contain the 14
th
Amendment or any thereafter as these are the product of The De facto UNITED STATES CORPORATION, and have no basis in Our Constitution. Therefore, they are Their Problems and when you join The Republic of The United States of America, they are no longer your problems! And as your Senator, I Proclaim here today that I am determined that Their Problems will never again become your problems in The Republic! Again, Remember, where the de jure Republic of The United States of America exists the de facto UNITED STATES CORPORATION, having no standing, must go away!
