UPDATED: Reports: Hillary And Bill Clinton To Attend Donald Trump's Inauguration

Source: Talking Points Memo

By ESME CRIBB Published JANUARY 3, 2017, 2:45 PM EDT

Hillary and Bill Clinton are expected to attend President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration on Jan. 20, according to a pair of reports out Tuesday.

Both Clintons plan to attend Trump's inauguration as 45th President of the United States, aides to both Clintons said, as cited in a CNN [link:http://www.cnn.com/2017/01/03/politics/george-w-bush-laura-bush-to-attend-trump-inauguration/report].

Hillary Clinton discussed whether or not she should attend with advisors and friends over the last few weeks, according to anonymous sources cited in a New York Magazine report. She and her husband ultimately decided to attend "out of a sense of duty and respect for the American democratic process," according to the report.

UPDATE:

Bush, Clinton to Attend Trump Inauguration

Presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton both plan to attend the 58th Presidential Inauguration Ceremony, despite earlier reports that both families might not be attending. Until Tuesday, Jimmy Carter was the only former president to RSVP to President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration. According to a statement released by Bush, he and former First Lady Laura Bush "are pleased to be able to witness the peaceful transfer of power—a hallmark of American democracy—and swearing-in of President Trump and Vice President Pence." Clinton and former Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton will also reportedly attend. George W.H. Bush, who is now 92 years old, has said he will not be attending, citing his age.

It is s total disrespect to those that were purged from voter rolls, whose provisional ballots were never counted, and polling places were moved. This was all to keep democratic voters, specifically those of color, from voting. Appearing at Trump's Inaugural is an insult to those who tried to vote for Clinton. What this move by the Clinton's reveals is the Democratic Party, as they have since 2000, are continuing to look the other way, while criminal operatives of the Republican Party steal elections. If we are waiting for the Democratic Party to protect voting rights, we are truly deluded. It is up to us.

A little hard for the Democrats to keep pressing the Trump-Russia-election interference which is treason—when the person who was the target of that possible interference attends the ball and appears, for media purposes to be normalizing this situation, as if it is indeed now gonna be business as usual.

I do wish Democrats weren't so afraid of FOX attacks and looked more fearless in the face of RW backlash. We need to defend SS, Medicare, Obamacare and there's something about this that makes it all look——like the codes of normality are more important than the dangers we in fact face.

Didn't he just send out a New Year's tweet that called the majority of Americans and HRC "his enemies" who "lost"? And we have to be polite about this situation?

Hillary has every reason to hold her head high.. & I think it will piss off the insecure dump that she is there distracting from him being the center of everyone's universe.

Hillary is fearless and I'm glad the Clintons will be there for President Obama, too.

Bill and Hillary some Putin masks to wear to the inauguration. Seriously, wouldn't that be classic if they put them on as tRump was being sworn in? All cameras pan to Bill and Hillary, and the country breaks into applause!

71. Bill should go as a former President. That is consistent with protocol.

But Hillary should not. No matter how much flak the right-wing would have given her, she ought to be used to that by now. Her presence legitimizes him. He deserves to begin his pResidency with a cloud of illegitimacy hanging over his entire administration.

Oh well, maybe they can take in some protests.

do i think the clintons should go? NO
protocol for bill? sure but trump said some nasty shit about bill's wife--a good reason bill & hillary should not go. unless trump publicly apologizes. and not even then.

what those upthread said against her going--especially to legitimize it (russia, electoral collage, and now this news that 50 electors were not legit)

fuck trump
