More cases of Russian cyberattacks come to light

Source: MSN/CBS News

U.S. government officials have been notified of new cases of attempted or potentially successful cyber intrusions, CBS News has learned.

Officials would not go into specifics or reveal the number of new cases. But the revelation raises concerns that Russian cyberattacks have been more extensive than originally thought. Since the U.S released a report on election-related cyberattacks on Thursday, a government official said more cases have come to light, CBS News’ Justice and Homeland Security correspondent Jeff Pegues reports.

Monday’s revelation about new cases of attempted or potentially successful cyber intrusions came just days after the Obama administration announced a series of actions in response to what the White House called “the Russian government’s aggressive harassment of U.S. officials and cyber operations aimed at the U.S. election.” In addition to sanctions announced on Thursday, 35 Russian diplomats have been expelled from the United States.

While President Obama and most congressional Republicans have denounced Russia for its alleged election interference, President-elect Donald Trump has been reluctant to do so, even after FBI Director James Comey and Director of National Intelligence James Clapper backed the CIA’s judgment that Russia interfered. The CIA said in December it has high confidence that Russians tried to influence the election and that they favored Mr. Trump.

The cover-up begins on January 20th with intelligence officials being paraded before cameras insisting that there was no Russian hacking.

And his 911 will be a cyber attack.

And why not? I suspect they were ready to change vote counts but it turned out to be not needed. The republicans with the aid of a self-destructive electorate did their work for them.

Actually, the Russians are more to be trusted than the republicans.

So, Donald Trump is telling the truth?

http://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-russia-cyber-idUSKBN14M13V

No evidence has emerged to suggest Russian hacking influenced the outcome of the U.S. presidential election and it would be irresponsible to jump to conclusions before receiving a final intelligence report, Donald Trump's spokesman said on Monday.

"There is zero evidence that they influenced the election," Sean Spicer told Fox News.

Due to become White House press secretary when Trump enters the White House on Jan. 20, Spicer told CNN the president-elect would see the intelligence report once it was completed later this week. On Saturday, Trump warned against being quick to pin the blame on Russia for the hacking of U.S. emails.

"The idea that we're jumping to conclusions before we have a final report is irresponsible," Spicer told CNN.

12. Trump claims with no evidence that Democrats made up report of Russian campaign hack
Mon Jan 2, 2017, 10:53 PM
Jan 2017

Well, do you agree with Trump that the CIA reports were really orchestrated by the Obama administration to cover-up for Democrat's shame in losing the election? Also, what about the other U.S. agencies who concur in this assessment?

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/bipartisan-senators-vow-unite-foreign-cyberattacks-article-1.2906894

President-elect Donald Trump won't blame Russia for a reported hack into the presidential campaign — but he will blame Democrats.

Trump said Sunday, citing no evidence, he believes the CIA report of a Russian cyberattack could be conspiracy cooked up by Democrats as "another excuse" for their Election Day loss.

His baseless blame came as his GOP supporters continued casting doubt on the CIA's findings — while some senators called for a Kremlin crackdown.

"I think the Democrats are putting it out because they suffered one of the greatest defeats in the history of politics in this country," Trump said on "Fox News Sunday" about the report.

16. CNN: Donald Trump taking intel briefings only once a week
Mon Jan 2, 2017, 11:26 PM
Jan 2017

Well, given that "US intellegence agencies have a track-record of lying," would you agree with Trump that there really isn't much need for him to get intelligence briefings given this track record?

http://www.cnn.com/2016/12/09/politics/intelligence-briefings-trump/

Donald Trump is getting the President's Daily Brief on average only once a week, according to a US official with knowledge of situation.

President Barack Obama and other key national security policymakers currently receive the brief six days a week, according to the CIA website.

Trump has attracted some criticism for not regularly participating in national security briefings as regularly as past leaders preparing to occupy the White House. Insiders say that rapid changes in the world's security situations require the American leader to be as up to date as possible.

"The pace at which he's getting them is below the norm," said David Priess, author of "The President's Book of Secrets," a history of the so-called "PDB." "Most Presidents-elect, once they've chosen to get them, have chosen to get daily or near daily sessions, reading the daily brief and discussing it with briefers."

Mon Jan 2, 2017, 11:54 PM
Jan 2017

it's not too hard to visualize a scenario in which a Republican "operative/plant/mole" inside a voting machine company may have secretly worked for years with somebody on the outside with some technical skills (like Russians?) on how to gain access to vote tabulators in a few key states (like Walker's Wisconsin and Snyder's Michigan?) and fudge the numbers in upcoming elections. Perhaps Republicans in Congress have known for a couple years that they likely had the next election(s) in the bag because of their "special project" and thus felt safe from any voter backlash for refusing to do their jobs like confirming a SCOTUS nominee or do anything for the good of anybody but themselves.

He was on All In with Ari Melber last night. They talked about the Russia sanctions, hacking, Trump's denial, etc. McFaul said plainly that Trump is denying Russian involvement because Trump knows if he agrees, then he de-legitimizes himself and his presidency. That simple.
