China said on Friday it would "seriously" study a new UN draft resolution on Syria after Syrian opposition activists said more than 200 people, mostly civilians, were massacred in a village by forces loyal to the Syrian government.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Weimin told a daily news briefing that China was "looking seriously" at the draft resolution, and that members should seek consensus.

Syria sanctions counterproductive Moscow
Russia would veto any Security Council motion to impose sanctions on Syria. Instead, it is urging all nations who wield influence on this Middle Eastern country to join Moscow in trying to kickstart a dialogue between the Syrian government at the opposition.
Deputy Foreign Minister Gennadi Gatilov has been speaking about this over the past several days at his meetings with foreign diplomats, including Italian Ambassador Zanardi Landi, with whom he held discussions in Moscow on Friday.
Gatilov said the coveted dialogue can be only brought about if foreign diplomats talk with both Syrian officials and opposition leaders.
He also said that the resolutions of the Geneva conference on Syria are not dead and must be acted upon.
