Breaking: Ex-Wham singer George Michael dies

Singer George Michael has died aged 53, his publicist has said.

The star, who launched his career with Wham in the 1980s and later continued his success as a solo performer, is said to have "passed away peacefully at home".

Thames Valley Police said South Central Ambulance Service attended a property in Goring in Oxfordshire at 13:42 GMT.

Police say there were no suspicious circumstances.

Michael, who was born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou in north London, sold more than 100m albums throughout a career spanning almost four decades.

Actually I wasn't a big fan but I remember all the cool black-clothed kids raving about him before he broke out here on MTV. I was the jock guy they let hang with them from time to time and when I saw him I said "Damn! That's a good looking guy"

The most impressive thing about him was his fight against Sony and the London Olympics - working that "room" when you are alone at least 100 yards from the nearest person was amazing. I've talked to some musicians I've known and they agreed that that was some serious showmanship.
