Sovereignty not a 'bargaining chip': Chinese ambassador to U.S.

Source: Reuters

In a veiled warning to U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, China's ambassador to the United States on Wednesday said that China would never bargain with Washington over issues involving its national sovereignty or territorial integrity.

Ambassador Cui Tiankai, speaking to executives of top U.S. companies, said Beijing and Washington needed to work to strengthen their relationship.

"The political foundation of China-U.S. relations should not be undermined. It should be preserved," Cui said. "And basic norms of international relations should be observed, not ignored, certainly not be seen as something you can trade off. And indeed, national sovereignty and territorial integrity are not bargaining chips. Absolutely not."

He did not specifically mention Taiwan, nor Trump's comments last weekend that the United States did not necessarily have to stick to its longstanding policy of recognizing that Taiwan is part of "one China."

Gets feelings all hurt and stuff.

Maybe if they weren't committing cyber warfare and espionage against us and if they supported free speech then I might give a shit.

Boeing has an $11 billion contract that they could lose to Airbus with the snap of fingers. Ford and General Motors have a huge investment in China that could be seriously damaged, China could order it's state run businesses to slow down or stop investment in the United States putting many people out of work, perhaps the biggest industry is China's agricultural exports that would literally crush small business in the United States, this is just for starters.

The bad guy here is Donald Trump and let's not lose focus of that fact when things go sour.

7. Exactly. A lot of U.S. companies who sell their products in China are quite concerned about this

As you gave in your example with Airbus, there are a lot of European companies that would be only too happy to fill the gap if China decides that it isn't worth the trouble to deal with certain American companies.

If a trade war starts, the financial implosion that President Obama inherited, will look like child's play

I also wonder how many are aware of the history of China, and how the Western powers
were all vying for a piece of China, at the expense of the Chinese people.

Chinese have long memories, unlike many in America

The new president of Taiwan could declare independence, but that is a naive response to someone who could strangle you with tourism and trade embargoes or squash you in a war. Donald Trump should respect this and spend his time learning foreign policy or pay the consequences.

a very sensitive issue with China.

Reunification through negotiations, status quo, or forcing China's hand where they believe they have to use force to take over Taiwan are all on the table.

He is playing a similar game with Iran and Cuba.

If the world court supported their claim, they'd be out in front brandishing it with a big, toothy grin
Since they didn't, CCP will ignore it.

CCP is very "my way or highway." They have in interest in outside ideas and have the self-made bullshit story of "since you aren't Chinese, you don't understand our vast, complex culture." Which is complete bullshit to anyone who lives here (like me).

CCP knows it has backed itself into a corner. If they give in and back off on their claims, it makes the lose face and look weak. Can't have that. If they continue, they risk losing more than they've gained.

Pretty much, anyway a schoolyard bully would work is the way the CCP does. 操共产党的妈的。 很多王八蛋.
