Tuesday, 10 July 2012 07:18 Sarah Kinosian

The U.S. State Department is investigating the identity of seven supposed American citizens that attended a party where Colombian police arrested neo-paramilitary drug lord “Fritanga,” reported Radio Caracol Tuesday.

On Sunday, Colombian weekly Semana published photos of the American citizens' passports on its website and a video in which one of the alleged Americans says in Spanish, "I am a United States police officer." Three of the seven men are said to be cops.

Although the statement confirmed “none of the men names by the press are assigned to the Embassy or are working as any part of any U.S. agency in Colombia,” it did not exclude the possibility that the men are American police officers.

According to William Ostick, spokesman for the State Department in the Western Hemisphere, the American Embassy has the names of the men and is still investigating the case.
