Rifle discharges at Montana gun show, injuring 2

Source: Associated Press

Updated 11:10 pm, Friday, November 25, 2016

BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) Authorities say a bolt-action rifle was fired during a gun show in Billings, Montana, injuring a man and a young girl.

Capt. Bill Michaelis of the Yellowstone County Sheriff's Office told the Billings Gazette (http://bit.ly/2g0W2XB) that a vendor was showing the gun to somebody when it discharged Friday.

Michaelis says the gun was pointed at the ground and left a divot in the concrete floor of Montana Pavilion.

Authorities say a man was treated for a hand injury at the scene by emergency personnel and was not taken to a hospital.

nocturnal discharge?

Why doesn't the headline read, "Dumb ass gunhumper fires weapon into ground at gun show"? The first sentence of the story could read, "Without checking to see if the weapon was loaded, the first rule of safety, this dumb s.o.b. pulled the trigger and injured two people. He is now responsible for all related pain, suffering and trauma of those victims for the rest of their lives".

Sheesh, I'm a carpenter and could do that much journalism.

bad news....there was still an ND. Safety first.

I'm going to have to hit a funshow sometime soon, (haven't been to one in several years since I bought my Shield) but with CZ's new p10c coming out I want one. That is unless it drives the price of the 07's down, then I settle on an p-07 instead.

Put a 10/22 on layaway for my son yesterday at the LGS.

With safety being an issue at these events, I think gun shows should be for adults only.

We are socializing our children as they are in our care. Transportation has always involved dangers.

injuries are rare at gun shows. Water parks are more dangerous. It's statistics.

My response was focused on the fact that I oppose laws that are based on culture war issues and not real problems. There is no scientific or factual basis to ban children from going with their parents to a show. We shoudn't restrict a parent from taking their kid to a show. Infringing on liberty is what the right-wing does. It's why we exist - to fight them as they impose their beliefs on others by law.

A spontaneous discharge?

It was a bolt action rifle. It cannot spontaneously discharge. The idiot who put the round in the chamber still had to pull the trigger.

Always assume that the weapon is loaded and proceed accordingly.
