World's most expensive naval destroyer BREAKS DOWN in the Panama Canal
Source: Express
A FUTURISTIC stealth destroyer designed to appear as a small fishing boat on enemy radar has broken down and had to be towed back to port in an embarrassing setback for the US Navy.

The flagship USS Zumwalt project cost at least 4.4billion (2.9bn) and is the largest and costliest destroyer ever built.
But the vessel suffered an engineering problem in the Panama Canal en route from Maine on the east coast of the US to San Diego on the west coast.
The 600 foot (183 metre), 15,000 tonne USS Zumwalt is the latest addition to America's naval fleet.
It had been scheduled to arrive in San Diego by the end of the year to start the activation of its weapon system.

(4,668 posts)You should be rooting for the continued success of the USN. The Zumwalt class has had more than its share of setbacks; let's hope they get it ironed out so that it can be the naval asset it was meant to be.

(1,204 posts)My question was to figure out where you're coming from. If you're coming from an "all war machines are bad and should be destroyed" mindset, then I get that fully support that overall sentiment (although I don't think we'll be there for a long time, unfortunately) But if your feelings are directed only toward the US and/or West, then I think that is a silly idea that needs to be challenged.

(54,041 posts)So much of our world's peace depends on a strong stable US military. Plus whenever international disasters strike its usually the US navy the world turns to for coordinating & leading rescue & Kevin's efforts.

(24,324 posts)I am not AGAINST the US navy. I AM against the obscene size of the US military and the stunning waste of $$$ that could be better used for humanity.
Not to defend Russia ar all (although I have many Russian friends) but just have a look at the US military bases that basically surround Russia, as one example). Can you imagine of the Russians, or Chinese, had that many military bases in Canada, Bermuda, Cuba, St Maarten, Mexico, Guatemala Trinadad and Tobago...?
I do not believe so much of the world's peace depends on the US navy, or army or airforce. Other countries, in NATO for example, have figured out they don't have to waste their precious treasury because, hell, the US will do it.

It could be a reference to the ship, or the presidential election.

is to always have your lube oil pressure higher than your cooling water pressure. They seem to be cooling with seawater as well, instead of a fresh water cooled lube oil system. Maybe the design team was so focused on the radar image and propulsion control (which is very complex indeed) and overlooked the more mundane aspects.
