For the second time in four years, another person has been shot at a Raleigh, North Carolina gun show.
Alyssa Glosson, 30, was outside the gun Dixie Gun & Knife Classic show at the N.C. State Fairgrounds Saturday when a firearm accidentally went off, shooting the woman in the head.
Sheriff Donnie Harrison says the woman's husband, Daniel Glosson, caused the gun to discharge when they were sitting in their vehicle after the show.
"He says, 'Look at this," and some how or another when she grabbed it -- the gun went off," Harrison told ABC 11.

These are not sportsmen.

(65,078 posts)You know that is what the vast majority of gun owners think. Yeah, it's not true, but everybody thinks they're an expert. Until they're not.

(51,574 posts)Fucking gun nut hypocrites. So now it was the gun that "somehow went off." What happened to "guns don't kill people, people kill people"?

(114 posts)It knew it should go off just to make the couple famous. It didn't want to, but it, 'just had to'. Or maybe it was brained damaged and didn't realize it was loaded. Darwin was right, but these nut jobs don't believe in that either.

Right-wing "logic" at work.

(15,396 posts)Reads like a ND. Poor trigger finger discipline, and and muzzle control at best.
In other news CZ could be coming out with their first (I don't count the 100) striker fired pistol this week.

Accident my ass. An accident is when another car going around 25 mph hits your car when you're parked and the loose gun is slammed onto the gear-shift and goes off because some idiot previous owner modified the trigger guard for quick draw and the fool of a husband thought that would be a cool feature.
Bottom line - no one was. "being threatened", the gun was loaded, the safety was off and someone's finger was on the trigger. That's not an accident or a defensable shoot, that's negligent homicide at the very least if the wife didn't survive.
The husband was either fatally irresponsible or had shot his wife in pique - and called it an accident to avoid jail.

(15,396 posts)Like most glocks and several other striker fired pistols.
Second, where have you seen a modified trigger guard for quick draw?
That being said you are correct....it was a negligent discharge. The husband needs questioned until he breaks down and admits the truth.

(4,229 posts)In WV if you bring a gun into a gunshow at the door they check it to make sure it's unloaded and put like a marker on the gun that it's been checked.
I can't imagine NC wouldn't be the same. I suspect domestic violence.

(14,764 posts)that some of the favorite handguns sold have no safety. They have an interlock built into the trigger. but net effect is if anything whatsoever tugs on the trigger it will go off. Usually, the trigger pulls are light.
As soon as a round is in the chamber, the firing pin is back and just a little pressure will fire the gun. You can't flip a safety that will prevent the trigger from pulling.
These are tactical weapons. They are intended to be fire-ready at all times. They should not be used for general self defense. Most people don't need a fire-ready gun. Police, soldiers, and the like, yes, but someone keeping it in their purse or car or bedroom doesn't. There is plenty of time to flip a lever.
I always though people should need a special permit for tactical weapons like glocks, ar's, street sweepers, etc. You can do plenty of damage with non-tactical guns. Not every one needs one.
Make them more trouble to get, and more expensive to own, and more people will opt for another solution. Sure, the humpers will still get them. but ditsy dolly and cranky pete may not.

(1,233 posts)She didn't die. From the linked article:
Authorities said the car's seat rest likely stopped the bullet's impact, and it only grazed her head.
She was discharged from the WakeMed hospital. No charges are currently pending.
Still should be charged for reckless endangerment, or something. Do we really need guns in the hands of people who make these kinds of "mistakes?"
