Melania and Barron Trump won't be moving to the White House

Source: New York Post

Future First Lady Melania Trump and son Barron will not be moving to the White House after Donald Trumps inauguration in January, The Post has learned.

The president-elects 46-year-old wife and their 10-year-old son are staying put at the familys glitzy Trump Tower penthouse so that Barron can continue attending his Upper West Side private school, sources told The Post.

Melania is extremely close to Barron, and they have become closer during the campaign, said a source close to Trumps transition team. The campaign has been difficult for Barron, and she is really hoping to keep disruption to a minimum.

Another source said Melania Trump will travel to the White House as needed, but that her primary focus is on Barron.

Melania is very supportive of her husband and is fully on board of doing everything thats needed as first lady, said the second source familiar with the Trump transition.

Yes it's the Post but it wouldn't surprise me if this is true. Melania and son get continuity and Trump gets an excuse to stay at the White House as little as possible, when he's not enjoying the benefits of being a free man...

And that has to suck. It's bad enough to leave your friends, sports teams, and school behind, but being the only kid does spell misery for that kid, imo. I felt very sorry for Amy Carter and Chelsea when they were growing up in the White House. At least Sasha and Malia had each other and their grandmother. And let's be honest - the levels of security that all of these children have had to deal with was unheard of when Teddy Roosevelt's children were collecting their menagerie of animals.

The fact is that there hasn't been that many children in the White House in the last century, and while John Kennedy had children, they were too young to care about their circumstances. And they weren't old enough to understand what could happen to their father.

Frankly, I'm just hoping that by the time the fall term begins, Trump will be gone!

The Kennedys brought children IN (never mind all the cousins), Amy went to public school nearby, and Chelsea had friends who attended Sidwell, which is also close.

Amy had a treehouse at the White House and had friends over all the time--google it, you'll see. Chelsea also had lots of friends, and dates, and a social life, but Hillary had a deal with the press that they leave her damn kid alone, and they honored it.

It's not easy to grow up in the spotlight, but I think that poor Trump kid will have a harder time in NYC than in DC. The WH press corps knows where the line is; the paparazzi, not so much.

You still have to either go out, or have friends over, to have age-similar company.

I simply disagreed with your thesis.

The Secret Service is pretty good at dealing with the kids. They try to blend in and stay back to the extent they are able.

The Bush monsters lost their detail at a toll booth early in the Shrub administration--they were with a friend who put the pedal to the metal and shook their chase car.

Also, I have a feeling that poor little Barron doesn't have a lot of friends or participate in sports or things of that nature--if he doesn't have developmental/social issues, I'll eat my hat. His best friend is probably his mother.

If Barron is autistic and if they don't want to make it public, at least stop subjecting the kid to public events like those in the video. Even if he isn't autistic they need to stop it. Clearly he's miserable at them and there is no reason to subject a 10 year old to this.

He's just a little boy. I have a little son of my own.

I cannot imagine what is must be like for a child who's been living in a privileged bubble to suddenly be exposed to the entire world and the world's opinion of his father, mother and family.

I hope that the media and press agree to leave him alone like they (mostly) have for other minor children of president. He is the only Trump for whom I feel sorry for.

Nothing to say about that wife of his. She looked down on Pres. Obama's birth-certificate on the View as if hers was more legitimate. Went all birther on Pres. Obama due to his brown skin. He's not my president and that undocumented hussy is not my first lady, she's the first lady of those who helped "rig" her husband into the White House.

114. About Bess Truman
Sun Nov 20, 2016, 05:06 PM
Nov 2016

From Wikipedia:

Bess found the White House's lack of privacy distasteful. As her husband put it later, she was "not especially interested" in the "formalities and pomp or the artificiality which, as we had learned..., inevitably surround the family of the President Harry Truman." Though she steadfastly fulfilled the social obligations of her position, she did only what she thought was necessary. When the White House was rebuilt during Truman's second term, the family lived in Blair House and kept their social life to a minimum. In most years of her husband's presidency Mrs. Truman was not regularly present in Washington other than during the social season when her presence was expected.[9] The contrast with Bess's activist predecessor Eleanor Roosevelt was considerable. Unlike her, Bess held only one press conference after many requests from the media.[10] The press conference consisted of written questions in advance and the written replies were mostly monosyllabic along with many no comments.[11] When asked why she didn't want to give press conferences she replied "I am not the one who is elected. I have nothing to say to the public."[2] Bess's response to whether she wanted her daughter Margaret to become President was "most definitely not." Her reply to what she wanted to do after her husband left office was "return to Independence".[12]

As First Lady, Bess served as Honorary President of the Girl Scouts, the Womens' National Democratic Club, and the Washington Animal Rescue League. She was Honorary Chairman of the American Red Cross.[1]

I have a book called Facts About the Presidents, and it doesn't say anything about her not carrying out her duties as First Lady. She was probably lucky the White House was being rebuilt so she would be able to have more privacy than would ordinarily be the case.
