Clinton Shifts Message as She Eyes Congressional Takeover

Source: NBC News

Should Democrats use Donald Trump against other Republicans or use other Republicans against Trump?

That question is dividing Democrats this year, as Hillary Clinton's campaign has sought to drive a wedge between Trump as the GOP standard bearer at the same time Democrats in down ballot races have been more interested in chaining the unpopular Trump to their Republican opponents.

Now, with Trump underwater in almost every poll and Republicans retreating from him, Clinton's campaign and its surrogates are aligning their own message with that of down-ballot Democrats.

"Donald Trump is becoming more unhinged by the day, and that is increasing prospects for Democrats further down the ballot," Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook said Monday while announcing millions of dollars in new aid for House and Senate candidates.

If they can do it, great

If it's not quite, so be it

If it doesn't happen quite as much as we'd like, we went for it

Very realistic

Dem Katie McGinty was able to force Toomey to admit that he would "probably" vote for Trump! He had been hemming and hawing before but that was the money admission.

they appear to be.

If they can't say they support Trump, who DO they support? They should be pressed

13. Toomey was elected with the teabagger wave in 2010

and then had to pivot to the center because teabaggers are outnumbered by both Dems and moderate GOP here in PA. However he got in because the teabaggers voted when they were needed. That is why he is doing a Lyin Ryan waffle about Trump because this year is not an off-year (when too many voters sit it out).

3. If Clinton can win by 8-10%

statistics show that may the House in play as the margin would depress Republican turnout and/or increase Democratic turnout - people are less likely to vote if they feel their candidate is a pathetic LOSER, while people want to vote for a winner. So, a few seats where polls have a Republican up by under 5% may swing to the Democrat because of turnout.

Now, if she can win by 10-12% or more, the House would definitely be in play.

But it is taking millions of dollars and tireless effort. One of the most targeted House races, MI-1, Lon Johnson. If any DUers want to help out, please do!

5. Only three weeks to go, but many voters may not have decided their Congressional votes yet.

Yard signs for those campaigns just started appearing a few weeks ago. The presidential campaigns have gone on for over a year now. A lot of down-ballot elections may be decided the day of.

The House Is Back in Play

Poll Update = Clinton 46%, Trump 39% (Morning Consult 9/30-10/2)

2016 National House Race
Asked of 1778 Likely Voters
Democratic candidate 46%
Republican candidate 37%
Don't Know/No Opinion 17%

Pessimists, note how many voters were still deciding their House race votes on Oct. 1! Since then, Trump has crashed and burned.

What a five-point shift could do = 455-83

Hillary will have to fight for progressive issues to get people to vote in 2 years, if she doesn't she risks republican gains in 2018.

9. We need to start educating & pushing Dems to vote in the 2018 election this time.
Tue Oct 18, 2016, 10:14 AM

The push should start right after she's settled into office and run by others. Get some progressive Hollywood stars involved even, because most folks pay far more attention to them than they do to politicians.

Now that Debbie is (finally) out, maybe we can bring back Dean's 50 state strategy. Dems need desperately to be in control for the redrawing of the Congressional districts next time.

At that point we should make damn sure that this time, the GrOPers are never allowed back in control again - and then we can start to seriously undue all the damage done to this country since Reagan.

Dems take Senate and narrow the margin in the House.
As long as we hold what we got and target key seats we should take majority in House in 2018 and gain in Senate.
This is key to avoid gridlock and constant "hearings" and "investigations" by a trumpublican controlled House.

The drive to GOTV is becoming a mild roar, with the focus now on building and maintaining an army of HFA staffers and volunteers out looking for every last voter, talking to undecideds, encouraging HRC Ds, Rs, and IAs short of demanding that they have a stake in this critical election. They all need to vote.

With three weeks yet to go, the HFA army is there doing that hard work. Every vote. Every state. No quit. Take nothing for granted.
