Daughter of U.S. track star Tyson Gay shot dead in Kentucky

Source: CBS NEWS

The daughter of U.S. track star Tyson Gay was killed in a shooting at a restaurant in Lexington, officials say.

CBS Lexington affiliate WKYT reports that Trinity Gay, 15, was shot around 4 a.m. Sunday morning, and was pronounced dead about an hour later.

The police statement didn’t identify Trinity Gay by name, saying a juvenile who was struck at the scene was taken by private vehicle to the UK Hospital and later pronounced dead.

Officials say Gay was shot in the neck, and that she was not in either car involved.

Yet again it seems the person killed was just an innocent bystander. I feel sorry for her father and her family. This madness has to stop. This country is losing too many of its children. I think the news media needs to announce how many children, in the United States, have died due to gun violence and other violent acts. It seems that if not everyday it is being announced every week that another child has been killed in a violent way. Each year, during the final show of the year, CBS Sunday Morning does a clip of all the celebrities who have died that year. I think they need to start running a year end clip of all the people under 18 who have died due to violent acts.

I thought the reason for her being out would be in the story, but it wasn't.

There really isn't any detail in anything I read, but the police did ID the two cars, found one of them and made an arrest. They're still looking for the second car/occupants.

Three charged after shooting death of sprinter Tyson Gay's daughter

Authorities in Kentucky have charged three men, including a father and son, in connection with the shooting death of Olympic sprinter Tyson Gay's 15-year-old daughter outside a restaurant over the weekend, police said.

Trinity Gay was caught in an exchange of gunfire between the occupants of two vehicles at about 4 a.m. local time on Sunday in the parking lot of a fast food restaurant in her hometown of Lexington, police said.

She was transported by private vehicle to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead, police said.

Father and son Chazerae Taylor, 38, and D'markeo Taylor, 19, were charged with wanton endangerment in connection with the shooting. Dvonta Middlebrooks, 21, was charged with wanton endangerment and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, Lexington police said in a statement late on Sunday.
