ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) Verizon plans to close call centers in five states, including Nebraska, where 320 jobs will be cut in Lincoln, the company said Thursday.
The states affected also include Verizons home state of New York, where the impending loss of hundreds of jobs prompted the governors office to label the companys move as "corporate abuse."
The company said Thursday a consolidation of its call centers will affect a total of more than 3,000 workers. Besides Lincoln, the other affected areas include the Rochester, New York, area; New York City; Bangor, Maine; Wallingford and Meriden, Connecticut; and Rancho Cordova, California.
Some 850 jobs will be lost at the two New York locations, including 600 in Henrietta, outside Rochester. In California, 700 jobs are being cut and 300 others are being relocated. The other cuts include 200 in Maine and 550 in Connecticut. An additional 175 jobs at a customer service facility in Huntsville, Alabama, are being relocated to Hanover, Maryland, the company said.

(22,651 posts)Call centers were mentioned as one of the 'jobs' prisoners were often used. The management is probably from the local community. There are many Corps who use prison labor because they don't have to pay them minimum wage or provide any benefits at all. IMO, Corps shouldn't be allowed to use prison slave labor at all. They should hire people at minimum wage.
Plus I've called Verizon many times for service issues over the years. We all make service calls to many Corps.?
I ask people who answer those calls while they're taking care of my issue.
