Longtime Donald Trump surrogate Newt Gingrich on Thursday smacked down the Republican nominee, saying “little Trump is frankly pathetic.”

With Trump’s campaign in a tailspin as more women accuse the billionaire of groping them, Gingrich lamented how Trump is reacting by lashing out at House Speaker Paul Ryan, who abandoned the nominee earlier this week.

“Look, first of all, let me just say about Trump, who I admire and I’ve tried to help as much as I can. There’s a big Trump and a little Trump,” Gingrich said on Fox Business Thursday morning in a comment that evoked Trump's slam on Marco Rubio as "Little Marco." “The little Trump is frankly pathetic. I mean, he’s mad over not getting a phone call?”

Trump at a rally in Florida on Wednesday lashed out at Ryan for not offering his congratulations after Sunday night’s debate.

Seems a potentially useful persuasion, really, for someone deep in that reality. "Sure, your guy can stand up to the establishment and that's pretty big. But he also has this little side to him, which can do horrible things like lying, refusing to pay people who work for him, and even bragging about sexual assault. That "big Trump" could do good things, but "little Trump" has no business anywhere near the presidency -- it's a shame, but "little Trump" is a dealbreaker."
