Donald Trumps campaign has decided to pull its field operation out of Virginia, all but conceding the state to Democrat Hillary Clinton, an adviser to Mr. Trump confirmed. ... The move came Wednesday night as Mr. Trump faced a new avalanche of allegations from women who told several different publications that the Republican nominee had groped or touched them without consent.
Mr. Trump had built up a modest field operation in the state, though unlike neighboring North Carolina the Trump camp never considered its 13 electoral votes as crucial to his path to 270. The decision also comes just three days after Mr. Trump fired his Virginia state director, Corey Stewart, after Mr. Stewart participated in a protest in front of the Republican National committee headquarters.
Mr. Stewart, a Prince William County Commissioner, told The Wall Street Journal on Sunday that he was promised 80 new staff positions by the RNC a few weeks ago, but only about one-quarter of that number were being deployed. ... The RNC has not been very friendly and has been pulling resources out, said Mr. Stewart. Theyve been starving the Virginia Trump campaign even though its necessary to win the country. If we lose this state, its because of the RNC reneging on their promises to adequately fund the states ad program and ground operation.
....
Over the past decade, buoyed by growth in the states African-American, Latino and Asian populations, Virginia has become increasingly favorable terrain for Democrats. In a recent Real Clear Politics aggregate of polls, Mr. Trump trailed Mrs. Clinton by 9.4 points. ... President Barack Obama won the state twice after decades of Republican dominance by 6 points and 2008 and 4 points in 2012.

Kaine was a huge pick in that he guaranteed VA, without VA Trump has to sweep NC, NV, IA, PA, OH, and FL to win and that's impossible for him.

(36,437 posts)I think it will have to wait for the stench of Trump to dissipate, but we will eventually come to see the Clinton/Kaine campaign as brilliant in its own right, and not simply sliding along on the Trump campaign's utter incompetence.

(19,066 posts)Trump did not have any ground game because he was going to rely on the Party to run his campaign in the states. His party pulled funds from him and told staffers to make up their own minds. They're days away from directing 100% of party resources away from Trump. Without the GOP, Trump will be running a national campaign with like 40 or 50 people total. He'd have a staff of less than 10 in states like PA, FL, and OH while Hillary has thousands to GOTV.

(24,703 posts)Now maybe we can get a U.S. Supreme Court that will give the courts back to the citizens of this country.
This article in the American Prospect shows how one judicial judge has helped change this country to side with the corporations, and how the republicans and judges on the bench have decimated citizens rights on redress in the courts, and should be read by anyone and everyone.
This is what this election is about, a very good read

Donald Trumps Republican presidential campaign is pulling out of Virginia, NBC News reported early Thursday, but Trump campaign officials say they're simply reallocating resources.
NBCs Alexandra Jaffe and Ali Vitali quote three sources with knowledge of the decision, saying the order to shift campaign resources to other, more-competitive states came from Trump's headquarters in New York and was announced on a conference call late Wednesday.
The NBC report came three days after the GOP nominee's campaign fired the now former Virginia state campaign chairman, Corey Stewart, for Stewarts role in a pro-Trump protest outside the Republican National Committee headquarters Monday.
Recent polls have shown Trump trailing Democrat Hillary Clinton in the commonwealth by anywhere from six to nine points. ... John Ullyot, the Trump campaign's deputy political director for communications, played down the NBC story, saying "we remain absolutely committed to winning in Virginia.

(10,857 posts)Admittedly, most of them have yet to raise $100,000 for their campaigns, but Republican incumbents have had to raise close to ten million bucks, collectively, to hold onto what they have.
