Wells recalls some Blue Bunny ice cream in six states

Source: Sioux City Journal

LE MARS, Iowa | A potential listeria contamination has led Wells Enterprises to voluntarily recall two lots of a Blue Bunny ice cream flavor.

In a release issued Monday, Wells said it is recalling certain 46-ounce containers of Blue Bunny Holidoodle Ice Cream in Nebraska, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Arizona and Texas.

The release said the ice cream is being recalled because it contains snickerdoodle cookie dough pieces recalled by dough maker Aspen Hills, based in Garner, Iowa. Aspen Hills recalled the cookie dough pieces due to potential contamination of Listeria moncytogenes, a species of bacteria.

Listeria can cause serious, sometimes fatal infections in young children and frail or elderly people, as well as those with weakened immune systems. Healthy people may suffer short-term symptoms.

As harsh as everyone was with Blue Bell and listeria contamination, it appears that it more prevalent than originally envisioned.

Listeriosis can cause premature labor, miscarriage, stillbirth, and a serious infection in newborns. And pregnant women usually are only mildly ill with symptoms like the flu when this have this illness. Plus it can take up to 70 days before symptoms appear.

Turkey Hill issued a recall for packages of its Dutch chocolate ice cream that actually contain rocky road ice cream, a flavor containing eggs and almonds that could provoke certain food allergies.

The recall affects 48-ounce containers mislabeled as "Dutch Chocolate Premium Ice Cream," all of which have a lid correctly reading "Rocky Road Premium Ice Cream," the company said in a statement.

A specific ice cream flavor was placed in the wrong containers although it had the correct lid for the type.

Heard this on the radio last night.

9. They should cut the price in half, or maybe make it lower than that.

I'd volunteer to be the crash test dummy. Turkey Hill is good ice cream. It's available in several chains in northern Virginia.
