Greek anger at Turkey border treaty remarks
Source: BBC
Greece has reacted angrily after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan appeared to question a treaty that set borders between the two countries.
Mr Erdogan said the 1923 Treaty of Lausanne was a defeat for Turkey as it "gave away" islands to Greece.
Greek Defence Minister Panos Kammenos warned Turkey not to pursue "dangerous paths".
Tensions over a disputed Aegean islet in 1996 brought Greece and Turkey to the brink of war.

(34,582 posts)they don't belong in it. Those islands are Greek, and they need to get over it.

(5,507 posts)it doesn't have a method for expelling anyone. Greece and Turkey have both gone at it before, I believe it was over Cyprus.
I would have thought they would have planned for such an occasion, especially with Germany's recent (at the time NATO was formed) history of invading their neighbors.
isssue will never go away...Once in a while it flares up.

(347 posts)That particular treaty confirmed Italian sovereignty. It was based on Turkey's cession of its right to Italy in 1920, hoping to enforce its claim over the islands (how that would be logical is a mystery to me). Anyways, it was in 1946, in the wake of WW2, where Turkey didn't particularly shine with its opposition to the nazis' delirium. Tried to be "neutral", and declared war with Germany in... 1945! That pretty much kicked Turkey off the talk table in 1946 and the sovereignty was transferred to Greece in 1947.
Guess the little man has a hard time making a case for being wronged after WW2. So, in trump's fashion, he goes back to whatever/wherever/whenever his position is not that obviously weak.
